In the second instalment of our BOM Classics series we captured the story of Ege Ferguson, owner and restorer of a Ford GT40 replica. Having desired a GT40 since its launch in the mid-1960s, it wasn’t until 1990 that a freak fire created an opportunity for Ege to realise his dream. Here he tells the story of his fascination with the legendary car and his ten year restoration project.
With thanks to Ege, James, Mark & Michael Ferguson and the GT40 Enthusiasts Club

This guy is absolutely head over heals in love with his car and i think the contrast between the two is amazing, Because he's very modest and soft spoken whereas the car itself is very loud and obnoxious when driven hard but the noise that it makes is still music. Its almost like this car embodies the louder half of Ege's quiet personality.

It may not be a “real” ‘40, but that’s clearly not the point. It’s a labour of love, passion, skill, and time that clearly gives great joy, not some trailer queen destined to do less than 5 miles a year lest it’s investment potential be negated. Bravo.

the point he made about every owner of a GT40 replica finding a different way to solve a problem and then everybody copying a better idea they see on another car makes me think that the replicas are better cars than the originals and they will keep getting better. who cares if it's "real", that's a rediculous question.

What a beautiful piece of art. I like the owner's attitude: It's a real one, in terms of it exists. Looking at Binky, we all agree that it's the same Mini, although so much of it was replaced during the build. It's not only the material that makes things real, it's the spirit in the things.

Love a bit of Binky, Escargo etc but you can understand how labour intensive it is and how hard it is to generate 45 minutes of content. Vs this, it's a very welcome addition! There's a lot of viewers with ace cars where you could do these films, and the way its shot, is ace, not loud and in your face over the top. Tasteful!

Something I never got my head round. I have had plenty of success racing Minis, but I never had the passion to build one from the ground up. Friends wax lyrical about windscreen motor differences, and how to work out what works and what doesn't, but it never grabbed me. However, I take my hat off to anybody who gets their rocks off building and problem solving. My interest has always been solving the problems associated with winning races, given what my arse is sitting in.

Seeing this depresses me a little bit. I was born too late - and made the wrong choices - to be have a chance of owning and driving something like that before it becomes too late for me to own a proper, old fashioned V8 sports car. A car built with precisely one purpose in mind - to be fast, and damn the noise and expense, it's gotta be fast! I don't regret it; I'm enjoying my life now, car or no car. And maybe I'll learn to love electric, or maybe petrol will outlive me, in the same way that film photography (my current main money sink) outlived the expectations of most. It's a true testament to the team at BOM that they can do several build vlogs in arguably the most entertaining fashion on KZbin, and deliver some absolutely top-tier content like this. Thank you all, and I suspect when I lose and break my BOM mugs and hats and masks that the only replacement will be available on the BOM store ;)

This was truly a labour of love! He is a wonderful, proud and immensely skilled man whose meticulously precise craftsmanship is visible throughout the car. This was a fascinating look into how this beautiful car came to be this way, with countless hours and investments over the decade. There are some things which cannot be rushed and need to take their time to meld into what they've become, and this is one of those!

I really enjoyed that short film fellas. The car is the star but it's great to see someone who appreciates that he has a sublime GT40 🙂

I love Project Binky, as any person with eyes and a spleen would. But I am very excited for it to wrap up to make more room for this channel to do more of this and things like it and things completely unlike it. Good on you boys.

The last part with the standing in the garage and pausing to looking at its beauty put something wet in my eye. Lovely car, man, and soul to this video! Hope that the new generations of enthusiasts keep some of this serene outlook on cars.

One of my all time favorite cars with heritage, and a soul. EV’s are good but listen to that exhaust. Look at the headers and exhaust piping. Look at the carbs. Look at the wheels. Look at the stance. This car has a soul.

Perfect approach to a project car - doing what you want to do because it makes you happy. Excellent feature and a very humble presentation of an amazing car

Those cars are so beautiful. The curves and their interplay are magnificent. The car came from an amazing time in auto racing. I grew up miles from a major race track and the sound of the Can-Am cars at that distance still shook my insides. That roar is instilled in my bones. The GT40 encapsulates all of it. I'll never afford one but seeing and hearing one still moves me. The car is a classic for excellent reasons. Thank you for a great interview. Now, about that Mini ..... =D

Well made vid, I love when ppl actually take their fair share of time to build something special :) Its a replica yes, but its unique since its owners view how the car should be.

When I saw the title in my subs didn't realise it was a BOM video, amazing dedication and a fitting tribute. Also happy to see the positivity in the comments, hopefully encourages more BOM Classics.

@@BenJames_76 Thanks, did see that but my recollection was a lot of people complaining it wasn't Binky, good to see the sentiment has improved at least. Hopefully BOM can continue to showcase these classics.
