Sam would be a fantastic, legendary instructor for all mechanics or soon to be mechanics to learn from. I appreciate the detailed explanation and instructions. No lame music 🎶 to struggle with. Dogs, 🐕 cool projects delivered with sincerity and precision. Does not get any better than this.

Hey Sam, that truck is really coming together now. Well done, and thanks for sharing. You truly are a Jack-of-All-Trades. And with the work on the tank and the front wheels, I think you've added another division to Scrappy industries: "Scrappy Polishing". The list, according to my records, now stands at: Scrappy Industries Divisions: • Scrappy Heavy Hauling • Scrappy Machining • Scrappy Welding • Scrappy Hydraulics • Scrappy Mobile Crane • Scrappy Marine - The Ski Nautique boat with the Ford 351 engine with a rusty distributor. • Scrappy European Auto Repair - The diesel BMW that accidentally drank some petrol. • Scrappy Scrapping • Scrappy Electric • Scrappy Polishing • Scrappy Landscape Removal • Scrappy Combine Harvesting • Scrappy Video Productions • Scrappy Helps Buddy

Back in the 80’s and early 90’s I worked at a shop that specializes all things tow trucks and as a result I installed lots of PTO’s and Hydraulic pumps. One of the things we did was I make our own mounting bracket/tab instead of that two piece weld together setup was we would tack the two pieces together and then use that as a template to trace our our 1 piece bracket/tab. Additionally we fabbed up a cutout for the PTO that was based off rpm of the engine and a pump cutoff switch based on hydraulic pressure

Firstly, happy Independence Day, to friends and family. Sam, my buddy, back in the 80's turned the cooler sideways, and made up a set of louvers, for one side. The fin side, was towards the transmission about 2 inches below, with the louver openings towards the rear. With a gear pump, run by a modified wiper motor, to circulate the gear oil. Air flow, due to the venturi effect, was all that was needed. This system worked wonderfully in the Canadian Rockies, fully loaded on the long 6 and 7% grades. The temps would stay roughly 10°F above normal.

Give Loctite 545 a try on your fluid fittings. I had a leaky 3000 lb hydraulic fitting on a John Deere tractor 6 years ago that I could not get to stop leaking. I tried Teflon no go. Someone told me about 545, used it and to this very day, it has not leaked one drop. I use it on every fluid fitting on the farm except residential plumbing. Not one single leak on anything ever.Try it you'll like it!

Damn i hate using dump pumps for wet kit application. I do agree on the hate for "scotch locks", those should be illegal. Ford is looking amazing, and your tank mount spacer idea is perfect! Old trucks always need work! Reminds me of the adage of how girlfriends and go-karts are alike. You ride them for a half hour on the weekend and work on them the whole next week.

It's always a pleasure to watch someone else doing the work! I learned that lesson the hard way too -- as soon as you're finished draining the oil, the drain pan gets removed and emptied. Most of our trailers work off the truck hydraulics. On the quad axle float the ramps and lift axles work off the truck hydraulics, but the massive winch (30T from memory) needs an auxiliary power pack. Originally it was all plumbed to work off the little onboard Honda power pack (now removed), but the winch barely moved and the truck hydraulics weren't much faster! The big trailer mounted unit powers it in/out at a decent rate, although we hardly ever use the winch. Better to have it and not need it, than vice versa!

Sam, that was a fun watch. That Ford is almost too purtty to put it to work. Love how well adjusted to shop noises your dogs are, obviously you trained them well. Reminds me of when my Lab was a puppy, I would bring her into the garage and showed her the noisy equipment and while petting her I would place one of her paws on the running machine, she leaned and never was afraid. Thanks for sharing 👍 - HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO ALL 🇺🇸
