*THIS* is the video to follow. I watched another video where they took the time, effort, and coins ($) to use a factory adapter, and then just put the wires through the speaker hole, while mounting the speaker. I tried to reply saying, "You've just destroyed the lower end sound of that speaker," but IDK if my message "resonated" (pun intended). I like your hole idea, and I'd probably just add some silicone to reduce the potential to rattle, keep the wires in place and reduce the sound impact from air coming through and canceling out the speaker's lower end.

You don’t need to pry the cover off @2:25 you can just push in on the back side and it’ll pop out. You can feel the cover has some give in that side

I’m looking for these speakers but from what I can see they “don’t fit” and I can’t find the adapter. Mind sharing the link where you got yours?!

I just picked em up at my local Car Toys. You're right they don't technically fit. The tweeter does touch the inside in the speaker grill. I would just pick a 6 1/2" component speaker of your choice instead. Crutchfield sells vehicle specific speaker rings and harness adapters.

Honestly I don't remember. I would just use a multi-meter or test light to be sure. Or you can twist them together and check it before making permanent connections. Check out my subwoofer build video too!

Great video. Did you keep the dash tweeter connected or did you disconnect it? If you left it connected how is the front stage imaging with tweeters in both the dash and door? Are you using factory headunit to power the new JL speakers? Thanks

I did leave the factory tweeters in. If I were to do it again, I would just get mid woofers and not component speakers. The highs are fine and not overpowering, but the tweeter domes do touch the door panels. And yes, the factory head unit is powering them. Definitely better than stock. Not winning any audio competitions lol.

Love your build! I have the XLT also, but my rims don’t look like yours. What kind of rims and tires do you have? Also do you have a link to the roof rack you’re using?

Those are the standard wheels for the FX4 package. You can also get an “upgraded” machined face gray wheel. Which is what I opted for.

Great instructions. How much better is the sound? Is there rear speakers?

Thanks I try. Made a world of difference just changing the front 6 1/2s. I need to do some sound deadening in the doors. There are still some rattles because the speakers do bump! I'm about 95% done with a fiberglass subwoofer build. I glassed the passenger side cubby under the rear seat. Video to come. There are 4" speakers above the rear seat belt mounts. Might change them in the future.

do you have to use that wire harness on the door speakers? would it not work if you cut and spliced? or are they not positive and negative?

Right behind the door speakers is a pretty big and flat piece of sheet metal. Also, there are tons of connectors and wire harnesses that can be tidied up with cloth tape.

If you decide to keep the tweeter from rattling against the door panel I would add a felt strip cut in a circle to the tweeter to brace it against the panel but still allow the highs thru. I would not cut the factory door panel. (Just what I would try 1st)

Nice work! Does the door panel rattle at high volumes due to the tweeters touching?

Driver side was pretty good. I did chase around some rattles in the passenger side, but it was mainly the seems where the different plastics met. I would suggest just going with component speakers and sound deadening where you can fit it.

Is the factory base/speaker rim needed to install them or was this your preference?

I'm sure I could have found an aftermarket speaker ring for Ford applications. I just didn't want to wait or pay more $$$ than I had to. For instance, the front door speaker replacements on Powerbass.com for the current model Ranger look exactly the same as the Mavericks. Many parts are found on other models. Just have to know what to cross shop. Third brake light is the same as F-150, etc.
