This is the first time I've seen the ECVT accurately portrayed as NOT being a CVT. THANK YOU ALANIS! Toyota started this bad name for their planetary gearset in the Prius. I don't have an alternate name in mind, but anything with CVT in it is BAD! I am a NON PICKUP person, but the Maverick has got me hooked! This may be my next vehicle in a couple years when the wife and I downsize to one car. I see it as a car with a truck bed, which greatly interests me! Definitely hybrid for us, and FWD is fine - we don't need AWD. I'm an old fart that kows what the Maverick originally was, and I think it is an AWESOME name for this car/truck!

The first car I ever drove was my Dad’s two door Maverick! And my older brother bought our Grandparents Maverick, painted it from green to Jet Black and had the town mechanic drop a custom 289 High Performance engine in it and it was for a time the fastest car in the county, and a full on beast on the road. Loud and Fast like nothing I’ve ever experienced before or since. And that was in the early 1980’s. I don't have a need for a full size pickup that's ridiculously priced and then I still get to shell out a boatload of money every month for gas. The Maverick Hybrid gets 40-50 mpg. If I'm easy on the gas I can usually push 50 mpg. It's not a perfect vehicle, the interior feels a little on the cheap side and the recalls have been a bit out of control but I am beyond happy with this truck.

As for the seats... I guess I don't think they're uncomfortable at all? I drove my XLT Hybrid on a 2000 mile round trip over Easter weekend to see my sister, and I was perfectly comfortable. (Also -- Lane CENTERING is only available on the Lariat when the active cruise control is on, but lane keep assist is available on all trims if you get the 360 package. I have it, and it's never had a problem for me in the year and a half I've had the truck). But I'm also 6'3", so maybe things are just hitting me differently. The stereo software issues with the infotainment system that affects Carplay are well known. I've only had it happen once, but there's a reason most Maverick owners know the shortcut to reboot the radio to fix it (Hold down the Radio Power button and the Skip Forward button together for like thirty seconds).

I’ve got a 2023 Maverick I ordered and took 9 months to get. It’s an xlt eco boost in Area 51 blue. So I’ve had it almost a year now and have about 17,000 miles on it. I only added two options. The copilot 360 and the trailer hitch. I thought I’d throw my two cents in to the conversation. Forgive me if I ramble a bit. 1. The keyed start. I like it to be honest. My wife has push to start on her car and I’m always looking for that key fob or a place to put it. I look as the key to start as a “key hanger/holder” 2. Mileage. I think ford is pretty conservative on their mileage numbers. I regularly (according to the truck) am getting 31 miles to the gallon with mostly highway driving. 3. Awd vs fwd. I chose not to option the awd. I live in Missouri and rarely need awd for anything. I figured, “I’m going for a cheap truck why option it out of being cheap for me for limited return?” I’ve always figured fwd is kind of a poor man’s 4x4 since it does so much better in snow than a rear wheel drive only truck. Awd is cool and everything but for me not worth anywhere near $2200. 3. Wired apple car play. I’ll admit that would be nice but I always plug my phone in when I get in my car no matter if it has wired, wireless or nothing at all. I figure why not keep it topped off if I can. What I don’t like is that, as you mentioned, sometimes it doesn’t connect after you plug your phone in. Other than that I’m fine with the wired car play. 4. Color. As you mentioned I’m glad it’s something other than white. I picked Area 51 blue because it’s different than white, silver or black and it was a no cost option. It’s not offered now as ford has deleted it in favor of Azure gray metallic which is a $600 upgrade. I get lots of compliments on the color. Kind of has a 1930’s vibe to it to me. All in all I love it so far. It’s exactly what I wanted in a little truck. I don’t want, need or honestly could afford a huge pickup. I like that I can actually reach in to the bed of the maverick and it gets good mileage. It would be an interesting video if you would dig in to why pickups are getting bigger and bigger. My understanding In Is that the government has tied mileage and wheel base together. The bigger the wheel base a vehicle has the lower mileage numbers it’s allowed to have. Hence car companies making trucks bigger and as a result more expensive to be able to get away with lower mileage numbers. Consumers are left with few options for reasonably sized and priced pickups. I’ve watched probably hundreds of maverick videos before and since I’ve had mine and I enjoyed your take on it very much. Thanks for the excellent review. Subbed.

Started with a XLT Cactus Gray, sold it to my son. Then got an Area 51 XLT with the Luxury Package, (because my wife of 48 years likes the finer things in our vehicles.) My son did too so he sold his Cactus Gray and bought my XLT model so I moved up to the 2024 Azure Gray Lariat with all the bells and whistles. One final note, never get less than 40 MPG as average. The truck is phenomenal! One last thing, with the Tri-fold hard cover Tonneau cover it’s like having a huge trunk in the sedan…but the utility of opening it up hauling tall things. 8:30 I think I understand how eCVTs work. The gas engine is given one overdrive gear, with the electric motors connected at a shorter gearing. At low speeds the motors handle your low gear and torque needs while the engine is your highway power. They should really call this the OVERDRIVE transmission, or "One-Range" transmission, some form of catchy exaggerated title lol
@AlanisKing6 ай бұрын
Catchy and exaggerated is good!
@imitt126 ай бұрын
Well, it is technically a CVT in function, even if it is not the typical belt and pulley CVT like we're used to. It's able to use the electric motors to infinitely vary both the input and output speeds, so the naming is not technically incorrect.

The drive train functions as a FWD most of the time unless it senses some slippage in the front and then the AWD rdu kicks in quickly to gain traction from the back. So if youre mostly driving streets In a non snowy area the FWD will be better for you and get better mpg.

My biggest gripe about the Maverick these days is that Ford seems to have followed market scalping trends and made the base model $5k more expensive than it was at launch, for basically the same exact vehicle. I remember being very excited about the $20k price point when these came out, and I was seriously planning on buying a Hybrid XLT before they became unobtanium. But now that Ford has jacked the price on them, it almost seems not fair, especially considering there are still people selling these trucks on the used market for more than they paid for them new. I don't know, maybe I'll wait for them to finally release an AWD plug-in hybrid, and I'll buy that.

Hey so I learned today (which kind of sucked) that if you have "Co-Pilot 360" in either the XL or XLT you don't actually have "Lane Assist" you have "Lane Departure Warning". If you want Adaptive Cruise Control or Lane Keep Assist then you need to go up to the Lariat with "Co-Pilot 360 Assist". So lame that Ford has kind of hidden this and decieved the average consumer! Still going to get one but that definitely put a damper on the excitement :/

I'm fitna subscribe up in here, and hit that bizell foshizzle😂 But seriously, great video although I feel even more at a loss on if I'd buy this as an affordable commuter work truck. That part seems settled, YES. But if you need to go on a 1200 mile road trip, NO. That sucks as I don't want to spend 40k+ on a small to mid sized truck that can do better in more / all areas. Oh, and that old comment, lol 😂 I think I barely missed that one.

My experience with my Maverick Lariat on a road trip are way different than yours and I traded my 2019 F150 Lariat for a Maverick. The seats are not as large and palatial as the ones in the F150 but it is a much smaller vehicles so Lazy Boy seats don't fit. Although smaller I found the seats to be very comfortable and supportive on a long trip and in short driving. Much better than seats in any older model of Toyota. I wonder what you think a small turbo charged four cylinder engine should sound like. I have owned a lot of four cylinder vehicles and you can't expect Cadillac smoothness or Hemi growl from any four cylinder engine. My Ecoboost Maverick sound great to me unless I am doing pedal to the metal acceleration. Even then it is not unpleasant to me. The Maverick is an economy vehicle in any trim so don't expect Rolls Royce appointments and sound levels. As much as I appreciate all the points you have made, it is obvious that your impressions are coming from a different angle than most and that's a good thing.

@@AlanisKing Agreed. I do find the Maverick seats to be the most comfortable of any small vehicle seats I have sat in but my experience is limited to Corolla, Hilux, Tacoma and Suzuki. I bought a Maverick XLT hybrid in May with the lux package for seat heat and 360-copilot package with the BLIS and blindspot, which was the perfect spec for me. I love the 42 mpg I'm getting, but I especially love that I can reach over and actually get things out of the bed with my tiny T-Rex arms. This was impossible with my 2017 Colorado, and is even worse with the revised mid-size trucks.

Have a BWW X3, Toyota camry, and hybrid XL. The key to start the ignition is kinda fun tbh. I've slept in all 3 vehicles. To be honest, any hybrid is the best! You can keep on the air, and the car will only start if the battery needs charging, and then the engine will shut off. Since my X3 isn't a hybrid, it just burns fuel. This is great when I need to sleep in my vehicle: ie - going camping and pouring rain outside and I don't want to sleep in the tent, or driving 12 hrs and need a quick nap.

It's actually quite fast. I have one but you have to put it in sport mode. There's nothing slow about it. The only slightly difficult thing is you have to look through the menus to set things and that's a little tedious so that's why you were not able to find how how to make it go fast. It does not sound wimpy at all. I drove both the EcoBoost 4x4 and my hybrid. Both are great. You just have to know how to get through the tedious menu to find the parts that let you choose the performance that you're looking for. It's a great truck

The initial concept of the Maverick was small and affordable. That is the reason for, the interior, wired Android Auto and key start. I thought not having lumbar support in the driver seat would wreck havoc on my back. But it was quite comfortable on the last road trip that I took. I have the 2024 XLT Eco boost FWD. I bought a wireless Android Auto adapter to remedy the plug in. As for demographics, Maverick has snagged an unexpected group of buyers. Ford might have marketed toward GenZ, but the company got the GenX and Boomers also. I have seen several Maverick meet and greets on line and the attendees have been mostly retirement age owners. Maverick (I have knicked named mine Bret) is just what I have wanted since the Ranger disappeared before coming back larger. I have a bed for small jobs and trips to Lowes and Tractor Supply, it is easy for my mother to get into (not a struggle with climbing). The interior is easy to clean. It has been 11 months and 6,389 miles since taken delivery and it has been wonderful.

I miss the "old days" where a feller could get a new LOADED 4WD V6 Ranger for $24,000! A mid grade would max out at $20k... Plus it was a real mini truck! Now the Ranger is the size of an F150 back then! Small trucks no longer exist. The Maverick is just an suv with a little bed.

There have been a few people who posted similar statements on the Maverick Reddit group and Maverick forum. Something like that would be a nice option but the bottom line is that it really wouldn't sell all that well in todays truck environment. There is a reason that you rarely see two door full size trucks anymore, they don't sell well.

I bought a 2024 Maverick XLT 2WD 2.0 Ecoboost less than 1 month ago. This machine will outrun my old Chevy Silverado 350. Maybe not top end but certainly in a mile race. I'm 6' 2.5" tall and my left knee rest against the door and after a short time it does become uncomfortable. I've looked for an aftermarket pad that would go on the door but I haven't found one so far. I may have to buy a knee pad when my wife and I take it for a run longer than a couple of hours. You're right about the seats. They don't hurt me but they are like airplane seats. Getting out is a bit of a challenge. I move the steering wheel all the way in and in the highest position to make it easier to exit. Getting in isn't much of a problem. When I decided to make the deal I had two color choices, Cactus Grey or Cactus Grey. I don't like the blue or the red and the Maverick just don't look right in white. This is my 3rd new vehicle in my 71 years. My Chevy Silverado was my 2nd ever vehicle and it was 3 months shy of being 30 years old. I Kept it in good shape and it would take me anywhere I wanted to go. I hope the new Maverick will be as dependable. If treated right the Maverick may last longer than me.

The lane keeping is turned on with a button at the end of the turn signal lever. It is not the same thing as lane centering. I haven't figured out how to turn the later on yet. Lane keeping will jerk the wheel back if you vere to close to a line. Regarding push button start, we had push to start back in the 50s, then we grew of out of it. Keys are better. What all cars these days need is a mechanical kill switch in case their computers get mad at you and decide to send you into a bunch of kids at the school bus stop. The key used to perform that function, but not any more.
