We have a 2005 Mondeo1.8 LX estate, great car for moving things, only bad design area is the reversing light switch, very fiddly to fix, and an NCT requirement in Ireland. Service it myself, only needed air/oil/fuel filters, oil changes, rear struts, bulbs, one alternator, original battery lasted 12 years, great car!

Got a 2006 LX 1.8. I love it. Incredibly spacious, really nice to drive. As for the climate control I was annoyed it with initially but you can just hold the hot/cold button and it jumps up faster than tapping it. On 109k miles now, hoping for many more. Never let me down so far :)

Currently own one - 2003 estate, 125 hp 1.8 engine, 303 tkm / 189k miles on it and running great. Brilliant car, extremely smooth ride (even at 160+ km/h / 100+ mph, the suspensions are awesome - and this thing is built for a larger engine than the small one I have), a LOT of space and actually a nice looking and well throught out interior. Reliable as well, even though it's old and well used. Even more impressive if you consider how cheap those things were when new... Downsides: Huge turning circle, rather sluggish (but at least it's quite efficient for its size and age), and most of all - everyone and their brother has one. Couldn't care less about the image, but even at considerably less mileage than mine has, it's virtually impossible to sell one for a decent price. No matter how low you go, there will l be one in better condition at a lower price in about a 1 km radius, there's just so many of them.

I have a Colorado Red 2007 last year production limited edge 1.8 mk3 Mondeo. Edge is standard trim now but when edge first started which was with my car you got a bodykit, alloys, tinted windows, electric seats and the rest of the trimmings, it has only done just over 60000, zero rust on the body work. My first and only car i have ever owned and i love it. People dream of Ferraris, i dream of a Mondeo ST220! I wouldnt even expect 1000 squids for my car but i do not care, my car is worth more to me than what the selling price is. Great all round car.

I have a Colorado Red Mk3 Mondeo 1.8 2007 last year production "limited edition" Edge, the Edge class became the standard model of fiesta mondeo mk4 onwards etc but for my Mondy it gave us a bodykit, alloy wheels, tinted windows, electric seats (at the time was banging) and all the trimmings you could get for the time. My father bought it brand new (he was a coal miner and a die hard Labour man) and i took it over. It has just over 60,000 miles on it and nothing has ever went wrong with it. Only problems i have is the drivers side window regulator that i need to replace evry couple of years. No rust on the body same paint as it left the showroom and the colour after 12 years hasnt faded. All in all i love my Mondy. Some people dream of having a Ferarri but i dream of a ST220 and one day i hope to own one. My first and only car i have ever had and what can i moan about? Its perfect in every regard (minus that v6 obv).

Awesome, I love the ST220 it's just a shame (in the UK anyway) that the VED band went mental in 2006 I think they are now over 500 quid road tax. Bonkers to think how many older cars have been deemed worthless because of that tax hike.

Funny you should say about Colorado Red, I used to have a 56 reg Fiesta 1.25 in that colour and in 12 years it didn't seem to fade. I would imagine compared to new paint it had a bit but still looked presentable after 12 years and 173k miles.

I had a top of the range mk1 v6 Ghia x 5 speed manual with all the toys. Quick and yet I managed about 32mpg. Eventually though the head gasket on the rear of the block was starting to fail. Unfortunately this is quite a common occurrence on this particular engine with higher miles. I also owned a mk1 SI v6 with the sports seats but guess what? The head gasket failed on that too. I've owned a couple of mk2 zetec engined mondeos and now have a mk4 petrol in zetec trim. I love em because they're big, spacious and cheap to maintain and good to drive too.
@CarambleTV5 жыл бұрын
Yeah but that Ford V6 was turned into the Aston Martin V12. So if you think about it James Bond having a Mondeo with Daniel Craig totally made sense and you sort of owned an Aston Martin, which you would expect to be a bit fragile, it's a supercar.
@simonjohnhinton19385 жыл бұрын
@@CarambleTV the Aston Martin engine was an amalgamation of 2 3.0 duratec engines to make the 6.0 v12. The 3.0 for some reason was more reliable than the 2.5 of which I owned a a couple. I did look at a mk3 3.0 ghia x but it had seen better days. My brother has my old mk3 2.0 ghia x. I was going to px it when I bought my mk4 but I thought sod it, with the amount of work I did to I thought my bro can have it instead. He had an old suzuki vitara which he had for 11 years but was going to cost a fortune to get through another m.o.t. so he scrapped it. My mk4 duratec is actually quite good on petrol managing 36mpg.

The whole point of automatic climate control is that you're not supposed to need to turn it up on cold days or down on hot days. You just set it to a comfortable temperature and it's supposed to run heating or cooling as required.

I bought a mk3 on a 55 plate..the tax on 06 mondeos went up by over £200 on the top of the line st220...phew!!!! The last facelift lost the interior boot release..well it was there on my 53 reg ghia estate? but my 55 reg ghia x hatch doesn't.. Its been very reliable up until earlier this year when one cold January morning it blew its clutch...she is a 3.0 so maybe i should of let her warm up first before moving off..i live on a hill too...anyhow that was all fixed in june i had to wait 6 months to save up the renewel cost ...a cool £ 1629.80p..but that was at MSF ford wirral main .dealer for decades...the staff are great and thank god the head mechanic knows all about these beasties....14 years is fair enough to expect...at least 1 clutch fail.. Now my son has spotted a pepper red 3.0 ghia x on an 05 reg ...with 58k miles...My panther black 3.0 ghia x has 57k miles.. The guy. sell is £1500..everything works...even has a sunroof...good service history too... Now this clutch might say last 5 years...or 5 weeks...but no clutch changout...but any inspection welcome... Decisions Decisions...they drive really sporty..very grippy and will give you fair warning if you get over enthusiastic....buy a cared for one with no rust and a comprehensive service history .. Ps the st220 has sill skirts that the testers cant remove to check for rust or corrosion...apparently...correct me if im wrong....
