I built one a few months ago, and it's been great. Love the black case it has now! You'll likely get a bit more than 50w on most bands. Look at winding one of the transformers with coax instead of the included wire, it increases efficiency/gain a bit, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for jumping into the conversation! I appreciate you stopping by, watching, and giving all of us a tip on toroid winding for the amp. I am going to study on using coax instead of the wire on one of the toroids as you suggested. Stop by anytime. Feel free to steer me straight when I start the build. I'll need all the help I can get. See you out there. 73 de Bill

Very interested in this. I'm not super knowledgeable on why the amp needs to communicate with the radio so that would be even more helpful to know.
@Bill-HRTАй бұрын
Thanks for dropping by! I appreciate you stopping, watching, and jumping in with a question. I will do my best to tell you why it is helpful if the radio communicates with the amp. 1) The amp needs to know when to transmit. The radio is the exciter, and begins transmission with the cw key or the MOX (manual operated transmission) button, or the push-to-talk (ptt). Some method is necessary to synchronize transmission of the exciter (radio) and the amp. 2) A method is necessary to tell the amplifier which band it should transmit on. An amp has different filters for different bands; either manually switching the amp filter with a button on the front of the amp, or having the amp switch auto-magically when the radio band is switched is necessary. I hope my poor attempt at 'splaining helped. Tell me in a reply if I answered the question for you. If not, hit me with another question. Come back anytime. See you out there. 73 de Bill

I have an amp for my 705 that I have yet to connect. I need to get off my butt and do that.

Carlos! I get it, man. Some things have to sit on the back burner until you have the drive to get them done. I've been sitting on this and vacillating about an amp for the 705 for a long time, lol. You'll find time at the right time. Thanks for jumping into the conversation. I appreciate the support. See you out there. 73 de Bill
