Ford Radio Removal- NO SPECIAL TOOLS

Didn't have a coat hanger so I popped the wire handles off a couple of old paint cans and straightened them. Worked great! Saved $$ and got the job done in about 10 mins total.

I cut up a coat hanger and tried over and over to get the radio out. No one mentions it but the steering wheel on a Windstar is right in the way so it is awkward to begin with. I worked on it for a couple of hours over two days. I could not get the radio to budge. Finally, I went to Walmart and bought the loop tools for about $6. Using these tools I got the radio out in about five minutes. Apparently the radio is tight enough that you have to wiggle it back and forth to get it to come out. And, it is nearly impossible to wiggle it while holding outward pressure on the coat hanger wire because the wire bends. If your radio isn't as tight as mine then the coat hanger wire could work. Otherwise, you'll need something stiffer. The loop tools are stiffer and also have curved ends which make it easier to grip the latches.

Hey. Great video. It really helped me out. I did, however make one modification. I cut 2 pieces instead of 4 and bent them to look like the tool. Made taking out the radio a little bit easier.

Did it this morning and it works great. I only suggest use the hex keys and a flat head if you dont need to take the pannel off....pop in the hex keys on one side and bend them away from the radio. Then use a flat head to remove one side at a time and boom it comes out ez

Dude, this has been messing me up for days, thank you. I used straightened pieces of deer fence. Guide it inwards (towards the deck) as you insert if having trouble.

We just did this and it worked great. Ok but first used a coat hanger with too thin of wire which did not work. I was trying on one side and my husband the other and wasn't working. Told him to just do it as we were pulling against each other and it slipped right out :) So the hanger should be thicker. Almost think enough to fit right in the hole. They should only go in about an inch. we also just used a curved wire for each side instead of the four pieces. Hope this helps and thanks for the great video!!!

Best bet n it’s saved me plenty of times over the years go to the junk yard to buy the part does 2 things you get the part super cheap for 1 which is the best part but you also gain the experience on how to remove it and it you break some shit then you now know how not to do it lmao

How far do you insert to engage the release? I used the tool. Seemed like it would go in a long, long way. Pushed out on the loops and disintegrated my radio. Now there's no leverage fulcrum to move out the releases. :(

I have been trying for a while now - even went on JustAnswer and talked to a Ford mechanic for quite a while - have had radio out before, this time CD player came out easy - bought u shaped tool - but radio not coming out. Have tried bending out and pulling as shown, have been told to bend out then bend in and pull, no go, tried gentle pulling with pick in cassette area (hard to have enough hands) - have tried letter opener, thin screwdriver, bending U-shaped tool a bit more (almost impossible for me to do) - have tried repeatedly pushing radio from back (cd player removed underneath) and wiggling radio while using tools and pulling also - thinking I may have to get a mobile repairman to come and pull for me as my local mechanic is way backed up.

93 f350 radio had these holes but a coathangar just wouldn't do it. I had to get really violent with that hunk of junk radio to get it outta there! Ripped faceplate of radio off then with 2 giant pipe wrenches pulled until those steel tabs ripped.

A couple of my preset buttons don't work and the volume knob It's crazy when you try to adjust it up it goes down and down it goes up and you've spin it around and it doesn't work in blah blah blah. Finally frustrated enough to do something about it!! Thanks!

neither the hanger or the nails worked for me. I stuck the claw of my hammer into the tape deck and yanked the radio out. worked like a charm; of course the factory radio is useless now but it's getting replaced anyways.

Thank you so much for reminding me. I have 1000's of those because I'm a landacape. Thought I was about to break thing trying to rip it out with the wrong tools. The weed barrier staples are perfect! They almost look like they were designed for this, but not the cheap, flimsy, small ones. Although, you may be able to get away with using those ones

What year Ranger does this work on? My truck is on its second radio replacement as I bought it second hand. No "four hole" near my radio in my 1990 Ranger! The bezel extends across the driver's side dash past the radio almost to the glove box. Help!

I know this is regarding a stereo, but I have a question about a DVD player in my 02 Excursion. Recently bought it from the original owner, the only thing not working right is the DVD player in the backseat. Tried twice to put in a DVD for the kids and it had enough power to take in the DVD and a quick blip appeared on the screen. Now there is NO power to it and the DVD is stuck in it. I looked through the owners manual to see which fuse is linked to it, but the owners manual did not show. Also I noted that the stock stereo uses several buttons to able or disable the DVD player in back. Since the previous owner has an aftermarket Kenwood stereo installed in front, I don't know if that could be part of the problem or not? I called my local Ford dealer and they said they don't know, and never heard of it. Do you know any likely problems with this, or does it sound like the whole unit is fried and needs replacement? I can't find anything on the internet about specific problems/troubleshooting. Thanks! Julie

Welding rod works. Be sure and knock all the flux off the rod and wipe it clean, round the ends going into the holes

+ah downs It is built into the rear quarter glass not sure which side but you will see a grid embedded into the glass.

NOTICE !!!!!!! I'm not entirely sure how it is on all of them but on mine I kept pushing the wire to far in and couldn't get it to work, once you feel some resistence you don't really need to go any deeper. Also side note, I had to push inwards but if you get them in the right spot and futz around a bit you'll figure it out, I also needed something to gently pry with to get the hunk of metal to move. Good luck to anyone who may need it!

Are you sticking them full in then backing out just a bit? If the brackets are indeed broken you will need to push them in manually from the backside what vehicle you working on exactly?

maawl I would follow what I do in this video NO HEAT: Ford Windstar Blend Door Actuator Removal and remove that lower storage bin and you are going to have to look up in there and manually push the tangs back

The clips are likely cracked off on one side you will have to access it from the backside

am i the only one who had terrible luck with this? I couldn't tell what was going on until it ripped out the entire dash with radio still attached. So I look behind and i ended up just prying it out. I used nails and a coat hanger and neither worked to unclip the radio from the dash. Oh well.

I used a dremel to copy the little inside dip just before the ends, as the actual tools have, before it finally worked. search: Scosche DT1 Radio Removal Tool and zoom in to see what i mean.

What is wrong with me? I've just come inside after working for a half hour on this. Could it be that the truck is 20 years old and the snaps are very stiff? My coat hangers bend and bend, I pull and pull, but the radio laughs at us.
