Soon I will be building a flatbed on my 2009 Ranger longbed. Original bed was damaged 4 times.
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
yes, better off the flat beds are super cool! I will be making another video when it cools off a bit, going to be installing a winch behind the rear window and making a simple removable set of rails to fit on the bed.

Hey man great video. Curious to know what size bolts are you using? I'm currently in the process of making a flatbed for my 11 ranger out of c-channel and made a similar mounting system to what you have. I have it temporarily bolted with 1/2" grade 2 bolts right now (just to weld everything in place) but want to switch to grade 5. Thank you
@muddythumper815210 ай бұрын
oh i dont remember the size, you know the bed bolts that bolts it onto the frame? i used the same size bolt probably 1/2 inch like you mentioned about they are probably 2 inches long or so with locknuts on them. I used fully threaded bolts so it dont matter and grade 5. Grade 8 is a bit of overkill. Thanks.

Can you make me a list for what metal to get and how much?
@natezp2 ай бұрын
Really helpful. But how did you get the wood decking in?
@muddythumper81522 ай бұрын
I angled it in, another thing you can do is just put the boards in then cap the end or make it removable, thanks! I put the boards in sideways. Then used a hammer to knock them straight. Wasn’t too bad to do.

Nice Video! I'm doing a similar build for my f150. What kind of pipe did you use for the frame? Did you use the same pipe for the headache rack and if so how did you bend or cut it for that angle?
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
Thanks , I used inch and half by inch and a half by 1/8 wall square tubing. 1.5x1.5x1/8 works great. I didn’t bend anything just cut it for the angle. Some people use 2 by 2 but for me 1.5 is more then enough.
@danielmaslin8063 Жыл бұрын
Oh nice. What angle did you use on it. The one I'm building tho is with diamond plating
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
@@danielmaslin8063 I’ll measure it for ya tomorrow. I kind of followed the window contour it’s likely to be about 55 degrees Diamond plate is great pricey here
@danielmaslin8063 Жыл бұрын
@@muddythumper8152 Yeah it's a little pricey but it's not to bad. I like the look of it better with the diamond plate tho. Thank you so much

hi nice work ! what are the exterior dimensions ? i know you stated 6ft of width but I didn't get the length ?
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
the length is almost 7 feet that i went with. I took 7 feet of square tubing and chopped 2 inches off. That way it is longer then 6.5 ft(normal box size). Mainly just eyeballed the length i wanted. thanks
@chrismorley760 Жыл бұрын
I went with an extremely similar design when I built a flatbed for my ranger, just used some bigger tubing. What tires are you running because that spec looks wild
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
nice! and thanks, the truck has a 3 inch body lift on the front / cab and 33x12.50x15 mud tires. Need to replace the tires soon with some new ones.

How did you get the wood in. It looks like you welded in the angle on all sides
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
I welder angle all around then cut the boards to the proper size then angled them in. Was pretty easy. A easier way to do it is to make the rear angle section removable. But it wasn’t hard

@@muddythumper8152 awesome, I'm planning on putting a flatbed on mine in the next few weeks

@@mattnewson7645 nice, i made rails to go on mine so far since. I am going to have a swing out gate made when i get the chance and installing a winch for the toys. I love the metal wood flatbed
@cassidydumont5996 Жыл бұрын
Do you know how much of the materials you used by any chance? I’m looking to make my 2004 ranger a flat bed and don’t want to get too much or too little square stock lol
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
I bought extra cause i always work on projects. I got a rough idea on what you would need. if you do the lower just flat bed part it will about this : qty 5 6 feet 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 switch tubing 1/8 wall qty 2 7 feet 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 switch tubing 1/8 wall + 2 inch switch tubing for risers about 4 feet 2x2 x 1/8 2 inch flat bar 3x16 thick about 4 feet. 2x8 sheet of 14 gauge sheet metal Not forgot to add - i used 3 inch angle 3x16 thick. that is qty 2 x7ft foot sticks and qty 2 x6ft foot pieces thats what traps the wood in. For wood i just used 2x10's, 7 if i recall if you plan on adding tie down points like i did, you will need flatbar for that about 20 feet long 1 1/2 width 1/8 or 3/16 your choice. for the rear rack going up that was about 8 feet of square tubing again. hopefully it gives you a decent idea. My bed turned out to be almost 7 feet long ( i chopped like a inch or two for how it looked) and it is 6 feet wide. I love it though, very versatile. In the near future when time allows ill be modifying this flatbed again and building a winter canopy :) Cheers- Muddy

@@muddythumper8152 Thank you so much! Bed mounts rotted off and the bed is sitting weird now so I figured might as well get rid of the whole bed lol. You’re a lifesaver 🙏
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
@@cassidydumont5996 no problem! same thing happened to me, i had to change my fuel pump and the box fell apart. I watch rangers driving around town, id say 95% of them have the front box mounts rusted off cause the body line sits lower lol!

Holy fuck, just got a quote for all the materials you listed in Dartmouth N.S. and its gonna run me $955.66 😅 wow haha. That being said I'm gonna use diamond plate on the back, the still. That didnt throw the price up as much as the square tubing. Crazy.
@muddythumper8152 Жыл бұрын
That’s pretty pricey bah lol I’m in Newfoundland and got the metal used / recycled. I’d say it cost me about 600 or so in metal. Plus wood and paint and stuff

@MuddyThumper I'll definitely be going the scrapyard route, was hoping to do it this weekend but gonna have to hold off a couple more weeks. Also got a 5 inch lift in the way and need new tires for that 😅$$

How did U get the boards in?
@muddythumper81523 ай бұрын
