Very cool and right on the money Alex! I had to go 456's when I was na to wake the car up. It was terrible with the 373's. It was almost impossible not to bog on the launch and it was only in 3rd gear across the stripe, as you said. Great video!

Been saying the D4 is trash for ages. Ford claims it was for emissions reasons, but I think it was to get a better return on investment from the 10R80. 🤔

The 10R80 will always have a higher take rate. It's also in way more application than just the S550. It's emissions. Did they nerf the gearing and screw us over in the process? Yes.

@YDBT4LIFE I’ve been patiently waiting on you to drop this video! I am right in the thick of things with my 2019 Bullitt and have only been able to manage a 12.3 @ 111.63 with every single mod that you mention in this video, minus a bias ply tire out back. I’m on a 305/45/17 MT ET Street R, but only because I’m running a Clutch Tamer Hitmaster Clutch Hit Control System. I launch at 7K rpm and out of three consecutive 12.3 passes, My sixty foot times have been 1.74, 1.80 and 1.84. These are all NA passes, but I do have a 150 shot of nitrous on the car. I know this is a long post, but I wanted to share my personal struggle/journey in trying to get into the 11’s, in hopes that I can contribute to the information that you’ve provided here. I have to say that the process has been extremely frustrating, but I’m going to stick with it until I can make it happen. Below is a complete breakdown of my mods: - Subframe braces - Diff. bushing kit with through bolt kit (black bushings) - Subframe bushing supports - Hardcore diff. bracket - Subframe alignment kit - Adj. rear camber arms - RLCA Spherical bearings - Adj. toe links - Billet vertical links (delrin bushings) - 1 piece driveshaft - Driveshaft safety loop - Tri-ax Race shifter - Adj. motor mounts (set to drag race configuration) - Idler and tensioner pulleys - KellTrac Ultra Spec Viking Inverted double adjustable rear shocks - Forgestar D5 17X10 beadlock drag wheels with 305/45/17 MT ET Street Radials and 18X5 front runner with MT radials - Ram Pro Street Twin Disc Cerametalic clutch with lightened aluminum flywheel - Built MT82-D4 transmission with Cryo and WPC treated hard parts, carbon fiber lined synchros and a Setrab external fluid pump for cooling purposes - Ford Performance half shafts - Ultimate Headers catted long tube headers - Steeda X-pipe - Steeda axle back exhaust - PMAS CAI (no tune required version) - Nitrous Outlet GT350 plate nitrous system (jetted for 150 hp and E85 fuel) and ProMax progressive controller - Lund Racing tunes for 93 octane, Flex, E85 and Nitrous - JMS Boost-a-Pump - N2MB WOT Box 2 step controller with No Lift Shifting The car makes 469 rwhp/434 rwtq naturally aspirated and 639 rwhp/602 rwtq with nitrous. Lastly, here are the three video links to the aforementioned 12.3 passes kzbin.infoKZmoaM6dLKI kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3K5dY2ohsiVsLM kzbin.info/www/bejne/pV7LenuDbs5sd9k

@@Speedfreak_260GT I’m running a 3.73 gear, but I have concluded that a 4.56 gear would more than make up for the crappy D4 gearing. I’ve been on the fence about whether to pull everything back apart and either install one in mine, or leave it as is and stop throwing money at it. I already have a small fortune invested thus far, lol.

Having owned a gen 1 3.73 car I always found the gearing way too agressive for the street and the gas milage was terrible. Just picked up a 23' GT base mt82 with the 3.55 gears and I actually love it on the street. Way less shifting, better gas milage and the longer gearing on highway rolls is way better, just punch it in 3rd gear and let it keep pulling, feels so much faster than my old gen 1 car with bolt ons.

@@midnight347 again it all depends on what you are doing. The gen 3 has way more torque and power than previous gens so even with the long gearing it feels punchy all the time but I primarily do roll racing so the longer gearing really shines. My 2020 whipple D4 loves it with 3.55 gears. Granted I don't do digs, but the power is definitely used. The car was whipped from day one. Stock whipple tune for maybe 3k miles, then Lund tuned at 823whp for like 30k miles then added ARH headers. 38k miles on the stock clutch and all so far🤷🏿‍♂️. My suspension/irs is pretty done up, but yeah. I would never take my shit to the dragstrip as is though😂. D4 isn't all that bad for many

Gen 1/2 with 3.73 and d4 with 4.09 is almost identical final drive. If you look at the splits of the gears, they’re almost identical, it just starts with a longer first.
@midnight347
@midnight347 Жыл бұрын
It needs more than a 4.09 more like 4.56. These things are geared much longer.
@shanebatten6473
@shanebatten6473 Жыл бұрын
@@midnight347 optimally yes. But if you figure the drop in ratio per gear, they’re almost identical, the d4 just has the numerically lower ratios. So a 4.09 in a D4 and a 3.73 in a pre-D4 would essentially be the same final drive. Which means if you were shifting both cars at the same rpm they would be going virtually identical speeds at that rpm.
@townhall05446

4.56 may seem extreme but that was a very common rear axle ratio at the strip and for many cars on the street, even with a big block that redlined at 6000 or so. I had a '71 Plymouth 440 with a 4.56 and 4-speed.

Hey Alex, question for you, what is the value of an IMRC lockout? My understanding of IMRC is that it is meant to get alter the profile of the intake to optimize performance at different RPMs. But I hear allot of people lock this out, why would they do that?
@YDBT4LIFE
@YDBT4LIFE Жыл бұрын
If the imrcs have to open and close on a boosted car, people tend to lock them open to simplify tuning. .power gain is negligible. And it's mostly for fuel economy and maybe emissions.

It will help alot but honestly I'd do a 456. These things are geared long. People were doing 456 on 96-98 cobras 30 years ago this is nothing new. Same thing it revved to 7000 stock or more modified and the old 5 speed has long ass gearing just like the new d4 does. People forgot about all this from 11-17 because Ford actually geared the Trans correctly for an na coyote which is why 373 was perfect and even 331 performed well. 331 w old gearing is kind of like 4.09 w the new bs gearing. People never really wrapped their minds around the gear change in these cars. I said from the start it needed a 456 if na and 4.09 would work well boosted. You hardly ever see someone put the right gearing into one. You see 4.09 but that is it. People won't gear it correctly because they're used to the thought that 373 gear is enough. Not even close.

If you are going to run pump gas only 91-93 then do not go beyond the 120mm in gen 3s 115mm in gen 2s. This will keep the psi in the 9 to 12 psi range which is safe for the boost level. Gen 2 can run 12psi due to lower compression. Gen 3 should not run no more than 10psi due to the higher compression. This will keep your power around upper 500RWHP to mid 600RWHP. If you plan on running more boost than that you better run some high quality octane booster at least every 2 fill ups, race gas, or E85 after fuel system upgrade. Hope this helps.
