I have driven combustion for 40 years and the last 7 of those I also run electric alongside the diesel, tyre wear is as I would expect. Brake wear is nil and money wear is negligible 😂

I've been driving an EV since March 2019, 98,000 km covered and found no difference at all in tyre wear as compared to the many years of ICE ownership previously.

The last 5 years of EV ownership tells me the tyres wear just the same as any other car/van I’ve owned. And regarding the inaccurate comments that are frequently made about EV charging electricity being produced from coal. The same people seem unaware of the huge amounts of energy that is used to refine oil. ie just one of the six oil refineries in the UK, uses the same amount of energy as Coventry and Leicester cities combined!

I'm not seeing the tire wear thing. In fact my Tesla Model 3 does not wear tires as fast as my Cadillac ATS did. Same tire, the only difference is the Tesla runs them at a higher PSI could that be making them last longer? I was at 35psi on ATS and the Tesla is 42psi.

Thanks Martyn for another great sum-up of the EV world and debunking some of the anti-EV misinformation out there. I've owned the e-Niro for just over 5 years now so just sharing the experience on the subject of tyre wear over 98,000 km here in France..Hope you don't mind that I post the link for anyone interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJOsZWV5hNOpnZY

In Norway, as i understand it (watched a few videos of Bjorn), they come as standard. On us, who live more south, they cheap out .... 🤬

Lol at "hot heating". But yes, I do believe heat pumps and faster charging should be standard on all EVs. There's no need to lock those two features as an option upgrade when you buy your car.

In response to your question, my Subaru Forester goes through tires a little faster than my Tesla Model Y. It also goes through brake pads MUCH faster. Actually can't imagine wearing out the Tesla brakes for a long time as I seldom even touch the brake pedal. In addition all 4 tires have to be closely matched in diameter/wear on the Subaru while on the Tesla one only has to match the diameter of the tires on the same "axle" (front or rear). The good news is that since getting the Tesla I don't drive the Forester much anymore so the current tires will most likely die of old age. Of course if one does jackrabbit starts all the time in any car they will burn through tires and make the rubber companies very happy.

I have a 2020 model Y long range with 40,000 miles with the original Continental tires. My guess would be that people who are wearing out their tires are very heavy on the accelerator and are speeding around corners. Thank you for the daily broadcasts, I watch on KZbin but I also use my ear buds so I can walk around the house and get things done while I'm listening to you.

Heat pumps standard! Especially now as we reach the end of this ice age and the global warming continues. I may never see below zero temps again in Chicago, which is great for me personally.

heatpumps should not be an option not because 'oh you can have it or not' but because you are able to build much better HVAC system if you know that the car will have the HP or not. Adding HP as an option forces you to build the entire system to operates without HP, and then add HP as a cherry on top. the problem is then the gain is minimal and you need 100k miles to get your money back.

A rebadged VW ID4 is not necessarily a bad thing, the Skoda Enyaq is basically a rebadged ID4 and it’s apparently a very good car, possibly even better than the ID4…

Like the ford explorer ev, from the USA.... My bolt EV wore out its factory Michelin tires at 47,000 miles. Because; all ICE cars roar, then they Squeal/ screaching pealing the tires in a loud mess. But my Bolt Ev can take off in 7 seconds with no noise, and just a little hissss, from the front tires, braking traction. That little hissss, from zooming away from a stop light was eating tread... when I rotated my tires, one had the center tread slicked off. I was so surprised to see it was slicked off!

I had to chuckle when I saw the interior shots of the Ford Explorer and noticed the driver-side window controls from VW. What a true fail by them (Ford) to keep the single window up/down switch bank with the "REAR" button allowing you to toggle between front & back. (Just as Martyn stated about the silliness regarding making heat-pumps "optional upgrade)----Ford should just go ahead and "spend a minimal amount of money" and give the customer a better product! ANY OTHER vehicle (EV or ICE) that has 4 windows up/down uses 4 switches in the driver's side controls. SMH. Rant complete. Great POD Martyn.

There are a few things that ‘new to EV’ buyers dont understand s much…heat pump and faster charging. It makes it harder to sell imo and the increase in price would annoy me quite a lot and maybe be a deal breaker.

Martin in Ohio (which isn’t really an “EV” state) the electric mix is really mostly clean energy not just coal like some people think. But for me it’s so cheap that my “smart” parts of my EVSE don’t even make sense to use! I charge it whenever because I pay a flat rate and barely notice if the electric bills are even going up! 😂

what is your take on high enviro pollution from ev due to their tire wear?
@EVNewsDaily
@EVNewsDaily 6 ай бұрын
I’ve not seen a reliable study on that. I’ve read a few articles over the years claiming that EV tires degrade faster, but they were riddled with holes or lacked citations. One of them was funded by petrolchemical body as an anti-EV hit piece. I think proper independent work needs to be done in this area and you deserve a decent answer.

@@brucejankowitz4501tyre wear is just one factor. Even ignoring tailpipe emissions the lack of break dust is also a major pollution reduction. I’d love to see an independent study as well on tyres as I suspect it is not very much more, if any, than other cars of similar weight and power.
