I’d say the last fluid change was pencil whipped. I changed mine at 52,000 and it was not terribly dark.

Yeah, I'm afraid that was the probably case on mine. Fortunately no issues still - fingers crossed, lol.

Having a dealer change fluids before a used purchase really is no guarantee they actually did it. They will, and do lie about it.

Thanks for the video! I did a quick search on Google and their AI says the fill/drain plug torque is 24fl/lb, which sounds about right.

Good old AI. Yeah, not sure on what the spec is - I should probably get the service manual for my truck, lol.

Helpful video. Just a lil tip. That helped me. The skid plate. I just unbolted the 2 screws by the drain plug. And let it hang on An angle. And let gravity do the rest

Very possible that they used the wrong fluid before, or didn't even change it. Yet if they used synthetic even at 93k it would not be black like that

Yeah, I was confused when I saw that, I thought the same thing. Seems to still be working fine though.

Did you ever end up changing that output seal? I can see mine flings a small amount of oil up underneath my cab front that spot

Not yet, still no leaks on mine.

Yikes, I'm at 78K and haven't done mine yet. Going to do it next weekend now lol.

Yep, it'll sneak up on you.

@@treasurestatetoolbags I'll probably just take my skid plate off since the dealer forgot two screws in it when they did my upper oil pan 🤦 This is the reason for me doing this stuff myself. I don't trust anyone these days.

@@treasurestatetoolbagsWeird, I just checked my manual and it tells me 150K for the transfer case for the diesel maintenance. Same for the trans. I'm doing both. I'm not chancing it.

Interesting... fordtechmakuloco did a really good video on "lifetime fluids" or high mileage interval fluids. Definitely worth the watch and some really good points made. For how easy the t-case is and being only 2 quarts, I'm going to change it quite a bit more frequently than even the 60k - maybe even yearly going into summer - maybe not that much, lol. I did do my transmission too, a drop and fill with a new filter, just haven't gotten around to editing the video yet - again, just 7 or so quarts of fluid to do a partial refresh of the trans fluid additive package - feels like cheap insurance.

@@treasurestatetoolbags Ya, I've been following that guy when he started. Along with Arod. I have never followed the manufacturer recommended maintenance intervals. I've already done both diffs and about to do them again. Is it overkill? 🤷🏻♂️ Gives me a piece of mind though. I just totally slipped on my transfer case maintenance. That being said, I have a buddy with a 2016 diesel and he goes by the manufacturer intervals. He has well over 300K on his truck with zero issues. He tows a dump trailer daily for his business too.

Does the transfer case only activate in 4wd?
@treasurestatetoolbags4 күн бұрын
The front output engages when in 4WD. The rear output is always spinning - so there is always fluid moving around the t-case. The chain that couples the front and rear output engages in 4WD, really starting to move the fluid around and creating more friction.

Take a piece of chloroplast bend it to make a funnel over the plate . Works for me like a charm and no removing the brace. Oh! Great job.

Yeah, wouldn't hurt. I'm planning on doing mine every 30k from now on - paying for 2 quarts of fluid is cheap insurance.
