Ford Talladega | Shakedown | Spaceport America

After some strategic changes and a new paint scheme, the Ford Talladega was readied for it's final shakedown before heading to the renowned Bonneville Salt Flats to make our own history. Here’s the in-car camera view as Aaron Brown wheeled it at about….ohhh…230 mph.

Brakes are mostly used for loading and unloading, and in the pits. Do brakes work on what amounts to packed snow? No, they do not - especially at speed. So the smart folks use chutes, whether the rulebook calls for it or not. Deploying them at speed puts the center of pressure behind the center of mass - keeps the car stable under deceleration.

@Master chief Master chief - I have friends who run on the salt. That is how they describe it - packed snow. Some traction - not a lot. Also, they run a lot higher air pressure in the tires - low rolling resistance, small contact patch - less traction.

It might just be closer to factory then you might think. Lots of good stuff going on back then. Good stuff was going on at the drags as well. This is what is meant by the saying "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday". It didn't go that fast of course, but they did make the Talladega with close to the same nose available to the public.

Why didn't you build this tribute car in the stock Torino Talladega dimensions without the drooping nose like a Plymouth Superbird

@@Roystothecoolkid Buddy Baker set a record at Talladega in a Superbird that wasn't heavily modified like this, granted it was built for racing. And Bobby Issac ran at Bonneville salt flats in a Dodge Daytona and it wasn't looking like this car. It is a beautiful car though don't get me wrong

@@markcheek5006 BS on many counts, FIRST it was aDodge Daytona , not a superbird and yes for its day it was highly tweaked and was NOT NASCAR legal.......BUT the bottom line is that it was a PR stunt for Dodge because after spending all that money to develop the Daytona the Fords were still kicking its butt......then complete disaster at Daytona when the only driver to drive an aerocar was killed in a Dodge Daytona.......so they set up the Talladega run to get publicity and it worked......BUT no matter how fast Baker ran , he still was NOT fast enough to beat Cales Mercury for the pole at Daytona or Atlanta.

We modified, after taking it to Blytheville and realized, for land speed records, we need to be closer to the ground and made some adjustments.

I also own TWO SuperBirds and know more about these STOCK ORIGINAL aero cars than probably anybody else still alive. The original Big-T along with the Spoiler-II were quirky odd in appearance, right out of the box. But this thing? Cartoon caricature of the real deal.
