Ok Being as I Drag Race High hp Pro Mod Cars I was wondering about how you Set up the Ring & pinion.... because even though the ratios may be the same they are not a matched set......
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic Жыл бұрын
They are the same ratio and rind gear is actually same part number. With that being said it is better to match them. I actually ordered both the ring and pinion but the mail lost the ring gear and I never got reimbursed for it so I just ran my old one. Being that tractors don't move fast gear noise isn't an issue. Dont think wear will be much of an issue either.

Not really as I didn't rebuild this one. I know some parts are available from New Holland. Another person commented on one of my other videos and said a place in Pennsylvania rebuilds them named Arthur’s Tractors. They might be a source for parts.

Good day from Ont. Boy very interesting. Our neighbor had 4000 3 cylinder, which was newer than 4000 4 cyl. Thanks , very confusing with this select-o-spd. Good video

Nice video with the additional parts needed for the swap. Unfortunately a necessary sway at times with the lack of SOS parts and mechanics. I have a 5 speed (861-D) and a row crop 4000 SOS, both in working condition. I also have a model 871 that I'm going to do some adjustments on the transmission and hope I can make it work. Other wise it may need the 5 speed treatment. I have the transmission, clutch, and flywheel. I'll need the step plates and possibly brake locks.

Very helpful thanks question the small round plate that will disengage the drive for towing does that wire do anything?
@chickenhousemechanic

It runs the light on the dash next to the throttle lever. It's for trans temp. Non-select-o-speed tractors had a metal plug in the hole instead of a light.

Do you know if the 4 speeds on the 2000 industrials in the early 60's came with the hydraulic tubes in the transmission even if they didnt come with the 3 point lift?
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic Жыл бұрын
Not sure. They could probably be installed fairly easily if they aren't there. My best guess is they would be there so oil can be in the hydraulic chamber to lube the driveshaft and pto shafts. Those tubes would have to be there to seal that compartment off from the transmission.

I'm planning to marry up a 1962 ford 2000 diesel industrial with a 4 speed trans to a sos rear end from a 1964 4000 agriculture tractor. The 2000 does not have the 3 point lift but has a trencher unit that runs off pto. Would the pinion from the 2000 work in the 4000?
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic Жыл бұрын
As long as the spline count matches the output shaft and drive shaft it should work just fine. The 64 should be fine spline and the 62 has a good chance of being fine spline as well.

@@chickenhousemechanic I've heard that the 2000 has a smaller ring and pinion than the 4000. Wasn't sure if I could change the pinion in the 4000 and use the pinion from the 2000 if I needed to match the splines on 4 speed output shaft. I'm just in the planning stages of the project now. Thanks I really appreciate your videos and you anwsering my questions.I've learned so much from watching the videos. I admire your craftsmanship you do a 1st class job.

@@motorhead4003 the housings are different for sure but the actual gears I'm not sure. The parts catalogs list the same numbers for both a 2000 and 4000. I remember running into that when I did the swap. When I restored my 861 I remember it had a huge ring gear in it but I'm not sure how it compared to the 4000rc. The 4000rc has the smaller rear housing like a 2000 or 601. On my 4000rc I ordered a new/used ring and pinion and the post office lost the ring gear. I used a pinion off a 960 and mated it to the orignal ring gear out of my 4000rc. Granted both of those are rowcrop tractors.

I have enjoyed watching the series of the rebuild of the 4000 tractor. I have a 1962- 1964 4000 model 41201D. I got this from the stamping on the flat just below the battery box. The serial number is unreadable as rust has eaten away at it. Do you know of another way to determine when the tractor was built? My granddaddy bought this tractor new and I still use it on the same farm in Northeast Alabama. Also if I may ask, where do you source your parts (rebuild kits, seal kits etc.)? Thanks again for the very detailed vids and explanations.
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can find casting dates on components that can narrow down the year for you. I've not checked the serial on mine either since the diesels are bad for leaking battery acid on the transmission and corroding away the numbers. I'm pretty sure mine is a 1964 though because the engine had 1964 bearings and thermostat in it. Granted the engine could've been swapped. As for parts I buy a lot of mine from Just 8n's out of NC. Also used Stiener Tractor Parts, Yesterday's Tractor, and Dennis Carpenter Restoration Parts.
