Have you watched the following KZbin video about Ford Transit cargo van problems before you decided to buy one? kzbin.info/www/bejne/mousko2plNV6aqM kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5DUp2aEo9GZr9E It’s true there are a lot of these Ford Transit cargo vans running around everywhere , but most of them are not own by those drivers themselves because many of them are actually own by companies. That means those drivers don’t even care about any tiny, moderate, or even serious problems that they may have had encountered . Why? Because those large or small fleet companies usually have their own cargo fleet maintenance department that doing all repairs and maintenance for them. Unfortunately, for individual cargo van owner is totally different story. I like this cargo van a lot in beginning, but I just couldn’t decide to buy this van yet because of all negative comments posted by other individual owners. Since you have driven and owned your Ford Transit cargo van maybe for little over a year or so, Would you please share some of your reviews on the engine and power trend performance. I heard and read a lot of complaints about this particular cargo van. Some even directly calling it a bad engineering cargo van ever in Ford truck fleet, some even nastier like piece of junk, or prone to fail at anytime. Your input is very valuable to me for making my final decision whether or not to purchase this cargo van for camper conversion. Thanx!

I'm about to buy this same van, but the T150 model. Sticker price was only $5K more than it costs now, August 2022. Estimated mpg - 6.2 gallons/100 miles, hard to swallow after driving a Volt, but it's going to be home for a few years. So far, your videos are incredibly helpful. Thank you!

Last year in April of 2020 I found my mid high roof Transit on Car Gurus. It was being sold by a reputable dealership near me for two thousand dollars less than suggested retail. It has a backup camera, blue tooth, power windows and door locks and mirror heaters. Im now living in it because I'd been a trucker for 25 years and I wanted to travel now that I'm retired. It also has the trailer tow package. After buying it I downloaded the Ford app, entered the vin number and discovered that it was 9,000 miles over due for a recall for the permanent fix on the driveshaft flex coupling. A Ford dealership did the work. It also has sync and trailer braking system.

Thanks for a wonderful tour of your Transit. I'm looking for a van that my stroke-surviving husband can access and move about in. This one looks lower to the ground and more open in the cab area than others, which is what we need.

I'm glad it was helpful, I really enjoy the Transit. That being said, if you are looking a floor that is low to the ground, I believe the Dodge Promaster actually has a lower floor as it is front wheel drive (the Transit is rear wheel drive and therefore there is more machinery needed to transfer power from the front to the rear which bumps up the floor by a few inches).

Thanks Christopher. I'll check those Promaster specs again. A reviewer of that one said he thought it was hgher than the Transit, but he might have been mistaken. I Believe the Promaster has a smaller cupholder/engine cover, too.

Does anyone know if Insurance companies will insure these vans for daycares or other childcare programs? I know they stopped insuring the Ford Econoline 15 passenger vans years ago because of concerns about roll over accidents and such. So just curious if these are better and safer than the Econoline. I mean they have air bags so that's a plus vs the Econoline with no side air bags.

What belongs in the passenger side wheel well spot? Mine had the tire tool (crow bar) and a blue bag with 6 pieces of metal tubing that clip together for no apparent function.

Put the mirror adjustment knob in the middle position and push it forward, both mirrors should retract.

Chris, Great videos on your van. I want to get this van. (Ford Transit Passenger) I want to use it for travel and mounting 4 bikes in the back (inside) and remove some of the seats. I do not want to sleep or live in it like a lot of people. I also have kids so we need Air conditioning and window for a normal travel type vehicle. One question. Should I get the low or medium roof van? My dilemma is that other than the bikes inside we have 4 very large paddle-boards and I don't think I will be able to get them on/off the medium roof easily so that is my dilemma. Please let me know your thoughts. Our boards are 11'6 in length. Thanks. Best, Mike

How many miles did it have when you bought it? We're hoping to get a medium roof for a good price but will most likely need to buy one with higher miles which makes me hesitant.

Thanks so much for making these fantastic videos. Question: Did you ever seriously consider the Chevrolet Express? If so, did you develop strong reasons for preferring the Ford Transit? I've noticed on the used market right now for comparable. 2017-2019 models the Express seems to be running a few thousand dollars cheaper. I am sort of attracted to the classic lines of the Chevy and even the old style side doors. But significant differences in ride or reliability would make me regret purchasing it over the Ford. Thanks!

Hi Randolph, one of the main requirements for me was to have standing height inside the van without an aftermarket pop-top or something similar. As such, this drove me towards the Transit, Promaster, or Sprinter config. As such, I never looked too hard at the older vans like the Express or the Econoline. After having the Transit for a year I'm very happy with it as it has enough space for what I want to do. I think I would have a really hard time trying to fit all the stuff I've got into an Express or something smaller. My kids are grown and now it's mostly just my wife and I doing the occasional car camping trip, as well as my desiring a capacious vehicle for Home Depot runs. I've dropped in on several of your videos, and appreciate your academic ones as well. (I'm a philosophy professor at Sacramento State.) Fantastic work.

@@grandolphmayes It's great to have another academic around the channel :). Another thing to consider is the gas mileage. I've heard some stories of the older vans getting somewhat poor gas mileage when compared to the newer vans. After all the camper conversions (including roof racks and other aerodynamically sub-optimal solutions) I can get around 17 MPG on the highway. If you're planning on doing a lot of driving, the difference in gas mileage might offset some of the initial difference in purchase price.

The Chevy Express is actually still being made, and 1-2 year old models are widely available, but it is older in the sense that it is based on a 20 year old design, and they are still using a V8. I have to confess that as a 61 year old, that is part of it's appeal to me :) But part of me balks at this whole idea just because either way I think I am buying a dinosaur, and within 5 years an electric vehicle that we can recharge on the road will be in the mix. But then the other part of me says they will be too expensive and we just can't wait that long anyway.

@@grandolphmayes I bought the Transit van and have a huge regret not getting the Chevy Van. The Transit gas mileage is dismal but so does the Chevy, difference is the Chevy gas 341HP and a V8, Transit has the 3.7l 275HP V6. So if both sux gas (18mph hwy and 15 city but 11.2mpg with an enclosed trailer), why not have the bigger, stronger engine ? The other issue is the seating position. The chevy express is very car like. Comfortable and easy ingress egress. The Transit seat it way too tall and unless you have long arms, you will hunch over the steering wheel. The seats itself are good but the position is not. The Chevy has primitive seats, but to upgrade them is less costly than finding a solution for my odd seating position. The chevy tows better and the steering feel is better on the highway. The Chevy is a bit odd in city but on the hwy its more relaxed to drive. The transit van is like a squirrel on steroids, so sensitive. The ride in the Transit is harsh and bouncy, so I'm switching to a taller tire to make it a little less jarring. Chevy uses taller tires, so the ride is a tad better. The Transit suspension is tight and solid, over all feel is solid too. The plastics are better than in the Chevy but not much better, still hard , noisy plastics. Somewhat better overall feel I admit. If I would do over I would choose the chevy express and immediately buy 2 seats and throw out the factory ones.
