Ford Transit Custom vacuum pump replacement

I have now a Ford transit with the same problem. Hard brake pedal. First thing, i think vacuum pump is failed. But, the vehicle had brakes. The ABS takes control, and brakes the van itself, pumping brake fluid. Thanks, Mr. Auto Fixer.

@MrAutoFixer This morning, i removed the vacuum pump. opened it, and sure enough, the vanes are destroyed. So, my boss has spoken to the owner for replace the vacuum pump, the timing belt, remove oil pan and clean all. 156.000 km on the odometer, 2018 M.Y. is time to replace wet timing belt as soon as possible.

@jokinusubiaga well sounds like the usual suspect ! Yh belt should be done at the same time as the rest really defo give it a good clean out! Good luck 🤞

Nice video. I hate my MK8, nothing but issues. In and out of Ford the last few months. They’ve just changed vac pumped FOC for me. Only done 35k miles and so far in the last 2 months it’s had new injectors, cam position sensor, 2 oil coolers and now a vac pump 🤯

Sounds like it needs a wet belt change too as that’s normally the cause of all the issues ! 👍

@@MrAutoFixer them wet belts cause so many issues, why do Ford keep using them? 🤦🏼‍♂️

@@MrAutoFixer I’m actually due to pick it back up in about an hour. See what they’ve done this time. I don’t want to give their loaner back, I’ve enjoyed driving this 24 plate custom whereas my 21 plate 350 is just a garbage place to be 😂

@adamgregory5477 well we all have the same question but now they have committed to using them they will just keep making money for all the repairs untill they have a change of design I think

@@MrAutoFixer when I picked it up I saw what they’ve replaced. Pretty much had a new engine, their own fault I suppose for not fixing the issues in the first place 😂

Main dealer have them on the shelf or some parts places like euro car parts or GSF normally have them in stock 👍

hi nice video , i have this problem & feel i can now repair myself , is it advisable to change the wet belt ? my vehicles done 80,000 mile worried it will cause same problem if i don't ?? thanks for any advise you can give

Hey 👋. I’m sorry your having these issues it’s not a fun time to have ! Yea I would recommend you have the wet belt done as it’s the cause of the problem normally! If you can have them both done at the same time that would be good 👍 good luck 🤞

kin exelent,i was waiting for some one to make this video,i have to do this and wet belt replacement,what do you recomend with crank bolt,any advice please help,thank you so much for this video,cheers

Hey your welcome 😊 as fun or the crank bolt you are supposed to use a torque multiplier. So if you can borrow one or buy one that’s ya best best 👍

Hey, Yesterday, my Transit Custom suddenly began braking on its own as I came out of a corner, and a message appeared on the dashboard saying, “Brake system malfunction: stop safely.” Could this be related to a failing wet belt, or might it be caused by something else? Great video btw, very informative!

Hey 👋 usually when the wet belt causes brake issues you will get a hard brake pedal, so if it’s braking by itself I would say you might have a different problem and would have it diagnosed asap 👍

Have you ever had one of these failures damaging the camshaft ?

No I haven’t seen one with a damaged camshaft from this failure yet 👍

I’ve seen it when failed and then when the garage has replaced it the vac pump They’ve not lined it up properly and it’s damaged the camshaft side ended up having to get a new camshafts

Have had 3 transits a mark 5 banana engine bullet proof engine then a mark 6 and finally a mark 8 with the 2.2. Also run a 1.0 ecoboom focus that destroyed its belt after 74,000 with full service history. When we change these vehicles it wont be with another fords or a vehicle with a ford engine. Rubbish design and I am trying to be polite. Who thought its a good idea to run a rubber belt though hot engine oil. On the transit with no servo like to know when the vaccum pump broke imagine it was on a motorway at 70mph and having to brake but not realising that it now more much more force on the brake pedal. Its a safety issue. Ford have to take some responsilbity for these engines but they wont.

Hey 👋 reading that I feel like you was holding back quite a bit! But yes you are right they are a bit troublesome and maybe when enough people steer clear from fords they will make some changes and better engines to get the customers back ? Who knows? Thanks for watching ☺️
