@Commando1102 жыл бұрын
It's because you have full control of the engine's power. An automatic just leaves you only the gas pedal to control the power. A manual transmission on the other hand, you are telling the engine exactly how much power you want and turning its small amount of rotation into a shitload of speed. Plus you have to get each shift right to get the most out of it.

My favorite scene hands down. Though the character of Leo Beebe was exaggerated to be more of an asshole for drama, it was a interesting prediction of what we'd see in the years to come, where high ranking positions in big corporations are often out of touch with the very thing they are selling. Beebe knew nothing about racing and this movie seemed to imply he didn't even know anything about cars in general yet he somehow managed to be in a position to make major decisions that everyone would agree was not in Ford's best interests and in this movie, countermand Henry Ford II not once but twice and managed to not piss him off enough to fire him. Almost every major industry has at least one high up executive or CEO like Beebe today, so the trend is not so recent.

Man held up a sign that just said "Full send" I also like Shelby's response to "She could come apart" "Only one way to find out" which in many cases even today is still technically true. yeah, we can measure the strength of x component, and measure the effectiveness of y, and conclude that some pieces can withstand stresses of abc. But once its all put together, until you test it... There is always going to be a measure of uncertainty. You can do things to improve it, but without a test, you won't truly know.

One of the cool scene in this awesome part is the young kid holding the radio 5 inches to his face and looking straight down at it in excitement like it is a cellphone. For this actor, it must feel so funny and awkward of a thing to do, yet, he portrayed it exactly how it was for the kids at that time. You had to imagine you were there while listening. How things change!

@johnhgt40 Жыл бұрын
@@tm5123 it's a pity you never bothered to do any research and see that GT-40s had both 4 and 5 speed gear boxes, with a different final drive to see which held up better. That's besides the fact that Holman Moodys team was specifically told not to exceed 6000 rpms, no matter what gear, while Shelby American permitted a 7000 rpm limit. That alone would make a significant speed difference.
@tm5123 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, its odd they didnt emphasize the rpm difference, but threw that extra gear in there instead. Do you know for a fact these two racecars had different gearboxes. I dont really have enough intrest in this tho, to really care.. perhaps this scene is peak accuracy, but looks quite fake.@@johnhgt40
