Adding another "Thanks" to your 6 year old video. Just did the fix you showed on both front shocks for our relatively "new" 1994 Ford Ranger. The first bolt twisted off and I didn't panic, I went to YT and quickly found this video. A local NAPA auto parts carries the fix kit for about $8, but before getting it I tried the second one and it quickly twisted off also. My biggest worry was drilling "relatively" thick steel. The first smallest bit is the toughest. I used maybe 7 or 8 to get to 1/2". In the end, it took me a while to complete but she's done. I'm 61 and not a mechanic. Thanks again.

This saved my ass. Same thing happened the lower shock stud broke. I was panicking thinking I had to replace the whole radius arm. Found this video and got the bolt replacement and it worked better than I hoped for! Gotta take your time grinding the old one off and make a flat surface on the inside, and go slow and make a clean drill hole but it will save a lot of time and money using this replacement bolt! I am a fleet mechanic for a fleet of about 30 ambulances.... I have spent far too much time working on E-Series vans. I basically always heat those lower nuts, they love to break. The gas axe also comes in handy at the top of the shock.... so much faster to just burn off the top of the shock instead of screwing around with the nut.
@maxwelljrdn7 жыл бұрын
Didn't know they made a kit for this. I've had three break within the last ten years on three different vans and I always torched out the stud with oxy/acetylene and replaced with a 5/8 bolt. Seems like a much easier (and less messy) job. Should one do it again I'll do this. Thanks!

So you started drilling from the inside of the control arm? I'm wondering why not from the outside, where you grinded the stud lip down. Seems you would have more room, but maybe you had a reason for drilling from inside. Thanks
@ozzstars_cars3 жыл бұрын
Where in this video do you see drilling from the back side of the radius arm mentioned??
@land77763 жыл бұрын
@@ozzstars_cars you are removing the stud from the raised metal side, and drilling from the recessed side (the inner side). I don't have a lift, am on jack stands, and on a Ford Ranger with less room, so drilling from inside would be tighter area. But I noticed there is a circle on that inner side that would help me mark the exact center of where the stud was, so I think I'll drill from inside, at least for the pilot hole.
