Fordson F (1926) Valve Guides - Remove/Install (Task 3)

In this video I tackle removing the cast iron valves guides, from a 1926 Fordson F, using standard tools readily available to the home mechanic. Also covered is some basic information on installation of new valves guides.

New subscriber here. I'm looking forward to what I assume will be the entire restoration of this Fordson? I don't know much about them, so am looking forward to learning along the way. I like how you show that for the most part you do not need any special tools to restore these old tractors. That is something I try to emphasize on my channel too. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Jacob. I guess back in the day the simplicity of the old tractors was needed so that farmers, used to horses, would be able to maintain them. A real bonus when it comes to working on them today.

Just subscribed. Looking forward to follow your progress. Question - I wonder if an air or battery operated impact gun with socket would have helped free those valve guides rather than a conventional ratchet wrench?

Maybe worth a try, as the impact action might have jarred the sticky ones free. For your information - I drove the new guides in from the top by hand operated hammer, but had them in a ice box (at just below zero) whilst the engine block was at about 20 deg C (a warm summer day here) ;) The size differential, due to the guides being cold and warm engine block, seemed to help on installation.
