It is people like you and others who are initiating this change and believe it or not, the change is due to individual and collective consciousness. By that I mean, people are becoming less selfish - they are sharing useful information that the general public can use to their advantage. This is a positive sign for our country and the planet in general. More and more of earth's citizens are willing to share with the rest of the planet. Having said that, I must also praise KZbin for allowing people to share their experiences on their platform. this will help to make our planet a better place. I just ran across that on my Mazda B3000. I had an odd misfire that would come and go and record a misfire on number 1 cyl. Couldn't find anything so I swapped number one and two plugs. That didn't change anything so I had a spare coil that I swapped that out, no change. Upon closer examination I found a weak spark at the number 1 and 5 coil. Finally determined that the driver in the PCM is failing though I'm not getting any primary circuit codes. Since the PCM is no longer available I found a remanufactured PCM with 2 programmed keys for a couple hundred bucks. it'll arrive here in a few days and that should solve the problem.

You can program junkyard computers without the factory scan tool. You do have to buy a sub on their website. Use your lab top and something like a snap on passthru pro. @mikeestrella24 жыл бұрын
This came in my recommendations. I was a long time ford tech. When the IDS first came out you had to sit and learn every window that was available. The training at the time was a (fast this is how it works) and then you were left with many questions that not many could answer. After years went by some of us Tech's learned how to manipulate as built data codes and change as built data codes. What you showed in this video here not many Tech's would know cause they would be what is called the dry cut tech that are only concerned about mass labor hours each pay period. The tech that learns programming windows are the go to guy cause the rest want labor hours. I learned that 5 pcm programs are faster and pay better than 60k on a taurus manly cause of spark plug location. Good knowledge for ford owners so they don't have to pay outrageous prices for a pcm replacement

I don't have a high-end scan tool or access to the software. This looks to be beyond the diyer, but there are companies that advertise used reprogrammed pcms. But you have to be careful who you buy from. My daughter has a 1997 Dodge Dakota that her boyfriend diagnosed as having a bad pcm. The first company they ordered from kept giving them the runaround but never shipped a pcm. They had to go through their credit card company to get a refund. The second company they ordered from sent a good pcm and fixed their problem for $225. My granddaughter took her car to a NAPA repair in the small town where she lives and they put a reprogrammed unit in her car for $500. So do your research and be skeptical.

Love the way you explain it and don't cover up for big corporate. Being a auto tech my self didn't know how to work on this for mine. Just wish I could find my Tare Tag so I can finish the install on mine. Any clues other than the mentioned? Please?

which programmer did you use for this? Can a similar operation be done on a GM vehicle using a Tech 2? Thanks for all your great videos.

Dealers selling "Spare Parts" "fixing vehicles" and "service" is their bread and butter, They don't usually have huge markup's selling new vehicles,Those "service advisers" are trained to sell stuff that you don't need , their techs are younger and tunnel visioned, No Matter what dealer you go to , Shot Gunning is their game, they would just keep throwing parts, UNLESS the vehicle is under warranty, then they would try to do some trouble shooting, My dad retired from a Dodge dealer , He was the "service manager"

Is there a way or tool other than the IDS system you use in this video to program a ford PCM?

Good video, great information! but ehh.. Doesn't this still require a authentic Ford IDS? (Isn't that thousands of $? if you can get one) with an active subscription to program modules? I know most secondary shops usually have the generic type scan tools so they might also just hand you back over to the dealer. At the end of the day unless you own an IDS or happen to get very fortunate and find someone with an active authentic IDS (maybe it is more popular outside where I live) it doesn't seem realistic for a DIY type job. But still a very good video, I always enjoy watching!! :)

You sir are a life saver, what scanner will I need? What is PATs? The screen of you showing us is that your scanner or is it a computer? I have a 2013 Ford Mustang v6 3.7 it’s been to Ford Dealership they said I have a bad PCM and they don’t have the part and Ford stopped carrying them. So now I’m scouring KZbin to figure out what to do…I hope you see my comment and respond

Ford needs to hire you to run their engineering and design department. You are under employed ;)

Ford would lose money because he would make everything inexpensive to fix!

They would probably change the PCMs to make this procedure impossible.

I would open the pcm up if possible and carefully look for broken solder connections and resolder as many connections as possible. It might take some time but might be worth it. I've has the electronic temp control circuitry and the lcm go bad in this way. Nothing wrong but bad solder. You can't always see the broken solder connections but you often can. Today's solder is really bad.

I'm glad he's doing an instructional. Ford GM program Brookhaven Junior College. Since then I became a truck driver after my career as a mechanic now that I live on the streets because I died on my Harley and my insurance didn't pay but I got Ford's and I enjoy learning every little new trick I can possibly learn from the traumatic brain injury a lot of auto mechanics come second nature for some reason I know things that other people don't under the hood and it just comes natural but there's other things that I need to work on and this is one things one of the things and I thank you for that

Thanks for sharing this important information and I'm going to do the same. This may be applicable to other makes and models out their, just have to think outside the box as you have done. I don't understand why they place these units out in the environment like they do; not all manufacturers do this.

What scan tool and program you use for this process, as I’m in Australia and I mainly drive fords , and just recently had pcm fail on a fg 5speed falcon Ute . And I was told it was a transmission problem, but I bought a scan tool and it told me it the pcm stuck between park and neutral, any thoughts about this.
@brianneal92043 жыл бұрын
Nice!!! I have the new Launch scanner tool. I am still learning how to use it, but hopefully I have this ability and a way to program the speed sensor for oversized tires.

Would my local garage have trouble replacing the PCM my 2004 Focus? You still have to deal with the transponder keys, don't you?
@FordTechMakuloco6 жыл бұрын
Almost all shops can program keys but programming the pcm may be hard to find.
