The car dealership business has to be the second most corrupt type of business in the world. Whats the 1st? The used car sales business. Some cars get paid for 4 or 5 times. Being as Henry Ford made it a point to manufacture autos that everyone could afford , I highly doubt he would be pleased if he could see what the auto industry has become. I don't have a high-end scan tool or access to the software. This looks to be beyond the diyer, but there are companies that advertise used reprogrammed pcms. But you have to be careful who you buy from. My daughter has a 1997 Dodge Dakota that her boyfriend diagnosed as having a bad pcm. The first company they ordered from kept giving them the runaround but never shipped a pcm. They had to go through their credit card company to get a refund. The second company they ordered from sent a good pcm and fixed their problem for $225. My granddaughter took her car to a NAPA repair in the small town where she lives and they put a reprogrammed unit in her car for $500. So do your research and be skeptical.

This came in my recommendations. I was a long time ford tech. When the IDS first came out you had to sit and learn every window that was available. The training at the time was a (fast this is how it works) and then you were left with many questions that not many could answer. After years went by some of us Tech's learned how to manipulate as built data codes and change as built data codes. What you showed in this video here not many Tech's would know cause they would be what is called the dry cut tech that are only concerned about mass labor hours each pay period. The tech that learns programming windows are the go to guy cause the rest want labor hours. I learned that 5 pcm programs are faster and pay better than 60k on a taurus manly cause of spark plug location. Good knowledge for ford owners so they don't have to pay outrageous prices for a pcm replacement

I know most secondary shops usually have the generic type scan tools so they might also just hand you back over to the dealer. At the end of the day unless you own an IDS or happen to get very fortunate and find someone with an active authentic IDS (maybe it is more popular outside where I live) it doesn't seem realistic for a DIY type job. Shhhh! Don't let the ford engineers/programmers hear this, they will find a way to stop this process. Ford wants to sell you a new PCM.
@teamallyracing17805 жыл бұрын
True they will find ways in blocking softwares and put patches on backdoor

A place in Ft. Laud called Ace. Auto Computer Exchange. You give them your broken ECM, PCM, IDM, etc. You pay for a repaired like device........way cheaper than factory or aftermarket.

A bad PCM sounds hard to diagnose, have heard stories of people trying "everything" then replaced the PCM and the problem was solved. I wonder what percentage of vehicles ever need a new PCM.
@FordTechMakuloco6 жыл бұрын
10% in my experience.

I have a 2018 f150 3.5 Ecoboost. With engine warm makes knocking noise passenger side front of engine. Has 15000 miles on it. Also oil pressure gauge reads normal oil pressure with key on engine off. Needle will go to 0 with key off. With engine running needle will go back to normal oil pressure. I found another truck with similar miles it does both of the things I mentioned. Ever hear of this. Thanks Richard

Ford would lose money because he would make everything inexpensive to fix!

They would probably change the PCMs to make this procedure impossible.

READ THIS! Just had to put PCM in Son-in-laws 2013 F150 3.5 Eco Boost for coil driver malfunction Cyl 1+2 dead. (P2300-P2303) I used IDS with VCMii and 115.01. (China full chip) Got a used PCM but was unable to write a new VIN to it. PCM was exact part numbers DL3A-12650-EE that was the latest update. Could not write VIN to it using PMI. would shut off power to PCM when I tried to use it. HOW TO: Install PCM from Junk yard with the correct P/N and program Pats keys. It will show a code of P160a Module ID miss match. It will start and run but will have the wrong VIN. Ok unless you have emissions test to get through. To write the correct VIN to the PCM, load a session in IDS with the correct VIN. Go to Powertrain, Service function, Relearn Vehicle Data. This will write PCM VIN and other data from the BCM to the PCM. BOOM! correct VIN in a Junk yard PCM. I just did it. No promises on different IDS versions or Model years/vehicles but it worked for me.

Is there a way or tool other than the IDS system you use in this video to program a ford PCM?

Hello Dewayne, I actually programmed some of the software he's using, He's using the Ford "IDS" software and utilizing a VCM ii OBD2 scanner.

so you have to spend 3 or 4 thousand on a scanner and software? the repair shop will do it for $750?
@ericgulseth744 жыл бұрын
@@eastwood111 If Ford dealers insist it can't be done and they are pretty much the only ones with that software, isn't that the point? Secondary shops with the software are rare. Unless you live in Chicago.

i had the PCM in my 96 camaro LT1 re-programed to never turn on the emissions controls. the only things the check engine light comes on for now is misfire detection, MAF problems, and other drive-ability codes. no evap, no smog pump, no secondary O2 sensors, ect ect.. he also adjusted spark timing and shift points.

I have a canbus Crown Victoria (2005 MY). It has a PCM from a 2006 in it. The reason is because I swapped the instrument cluster from a 2006 into the car, and needed the '06 PCM in order for it to properly work. The current PCM in the vehicle was flashed for speed control and the VIN for my 2005 programmed into it. So, on Forscan, it reports as a 2006 MY 2005 Crown Victoria lol ... but it works as it should and I have speed control.

Would my local garage have trouble replacing the PCM my 2004 Focus? You still have to deal with the transponder keys, don't you?
@FordTechMakuloco6 жыл бұрын
Almost all shops can program keys but programming the pcm may be hard to find.
