If you disconnect the throttle body electrical connecter with the battery connected the engine computer senses a fault and sets a code on some vehicles , It will always set a code if you turn the key on without the Throttle body connected as it try's and self test its proper movement and response every time and does not get the expected response.

FordTechMakuloco--After spending $736.00 at my local shop to get my air conditioning working again, I came home and started to get dash lights coming on. First, the check engine light came on, followed by the wrench light. I had a scanner tool, hooked it up and got two error codes. The most severe was the one causing the wrench light to light up and that was the P061B code. You should never be scared I ran my 3.0 fusion with 230,000 miles completely out of oil 15 times before the motor locked up lol they are tanks

@@southernracing2468 Thats really their only Achilles heel, leaky valve cover and oil pan gasket. Honestly the pan gasket doesn't look hard to change. It just looks like it might require snapping a few exhaust bolts getting the manifold pipe out of the way.

Question, I have a 2012 fusion that's going into limp mode as well it keeps turning on the orange wrench light(throttle control/transmission light) after about 10 miles of driving. It's shifting very oddly and hard sometimes. Did you have the same issue?

@@dripdrap1353 yes it would randomly go on limp mode and not shift. Would fix it self out if I turn it off and on. Don’t buy a cheap throttle body from eBay as it gave me the same issue, I was able to fix it buying a oem part from the dealer

Thank you so much I recently have had nothing but trouble with my son’s 2012 Ford fusion from ECM to PCM and everything in between thought we had it figured out and then got the trouble code for throttle body failure. I did disconnect the battery when I changed the throttle body and figured that was enough after clearing, the codes still did not run right after about an hour of driving it stranded him again, I pulled the negative cable off and grounded it out to the positive like you said for 15 minutes. Let it idle cars. Perfect now thank you very much I can’t thank you enough.

Thanks for the videos. This was my 5th ETB (2013 F150, 3.5 EB, 403k miles, 2nd engine) and first one I did myself. Spent $221 for the ETB & gasket. Hardest part was get the dang wire harness off without breaking the tab.

Dang 403k is great. I got a 2014 f150 and my ETB fried out at 126k. What caused you to replace your 3.5 originally??I had a really sticky tab , sliced my hand getting it off but I heard blood offerings are good luck!

I have 2014 F 150 3.5 Eco. I talked to 3 different mechanics, Payed 1 $190 to diagnose the ETB. My symptoms were number 6 cylinder misfire ,rough shifting of transmission, going into idle mode, having to pull off road and turn off and back on to reset to continue driving til it did it again. With this video and one other I learned how to reprogram the CPU To learn the new ETB. My diagnosis mechanic wanted an additional $1300 to fix the problem. Because of these videos and DIY I completed the job successfully under a $100. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

im for sure going to get another 100k miles on my truck. just cracked 200k on '03 5.4 2v. i left this video in mid play to go to the throttle cleaning vid... done that plus my MAF sensor, IAT sensor, Wiped down my chrome snorkel and re-charged my K&N filter. Shorted the codes out let it wit a gater cable. start my truck and let it run for 20 mins with touching pedal. OMG!!! i watched all your videos.

Excellent post and intel. My 05 F150 has never run better. Replaced TPS and cleaned throttle body and Mass airflow sensor. Followed that up with the reset and calibration.

I want to thank you so much for posting this video. I have a 2013 Ford F-150 and recently I started having issues with the wrench light coming on and the truck going into limp mode. The speedometer would also stop working along with distance to empty, MPG average and odometer among others. I would pull over and let the truck sit for a few minutes, restart the truck and it would run fine again for a day or so. Then the wrench light would re-appear and I'd have to do that over again. I watched another KZbin video and the person suggested replacing the throttle body sensor. Then yesterday the transmission light came on and stayed on and I couldn't get it to go off even when restarting the truck. I was about to buy on but decided to see if anyone else had a solution and found yours. I went through your steps and viola the transmission light has gone off. I'll go give it a test drive now and see if my problem is solved but I do believe it is and wanted to thank you. Cheers..!

I cleaned my throttle body for my 2010 ford fusion and connected everything like it was before. Then did what you said on the video and after doing this I drove it for a while. Now the car shakes and wants to shut off. The rpm is a little below 1000 rpm when parked. Before cleaning the throttle the car was acting normal. No shaking or wanting to turn off

In a pinch, you can just turn on your headlights after you disconnect the negative battery terminal. Current will drain/ discharge any capacitors in the system.

So replaced the spark plugs, having to remove the plenum and throttle body assembly, I didn't do this step, now getting p2110 code, do you think I need to replace the TPS, or is there another way to calibrate the system?

I now do a computer reset (using ForScan for PC) after every fairly major repair job relating to intake, fuel, spark, transmission, or exhaust. After a major tuneup, after cleaning throttlebody, after a new air filter, basically anything that is fairly major in maintenance. I do a computer reset, and let the car relearn everything with the new parts installed. It definitely makes a difference. Makes the car run better. And improves fuel mileage as well as overall performance. It is definitely not a joke.

Ha I pulled the throttle body out of my 2014 5.0, cleaned it, cleaned inside intake manifold, reinstalled, tried this way, no change. Throttle position, hill descent, traction control system, tried a new throttle body, still no change. Sounds good at idle, drive off my driveway goes back into limp mode. Back to the beginning after spending more on this truck

Changed my TB because of stalling and loss of power, dealership said the TB plate was sticking and needed to be replaced. Apparently that's a problem with my generation of fusion(2007). I did this reset with the new TB, but the service wrench was on and the gas pedal was non responsive.

Just removed and cleaned the throttle body on our 2014 Ford Explorer Sport with twin turbos. Also changed the plugs while I was at it with OEM motorcraft plugs. The rough idle on start up has disappeared and it running well after going through all your proceedures...except now the turbos don't seem to be engaging as they were previously. They would just rocket your out of a slow roll or even just rolling down the road, but now it acts more like a car without turbos. Meaning, when I punch the accelerator, it just takes its sweet time rolling up. Granted I'm one day into the throttle relearning it's new life, but I really did love the old turbo life. Thoughts?

Update! Ok, as embarrassing as it is, it appears that I missed tightening the clamp on the turbo charge pipe after needing to move it to get to one of the rear spark plugs, and the pipe had come off during the test drive. Its been reinstalled and tightened and I'm happy to report the Explorer is back to full potential and running better than it has is good while. Very happy! Thanks for the great vid and walk through. About an hour project that's well worth the time.

Probably if you change or upgrade anything as well. If you’re changing plugs or coil packs, upgrading intake or exhaust, your ecm needs to reset properly in order to function within ranges. Also, a flash will help on these as it will allow factory limits within the ecm to be changed for better performance and fuel economy.

I think my throttle body unit is the cause for my engine problems; slow response to gas pedal, heavy fuel order, jerks/ hesitates at high speeds (takes long to get to highway speeds) but the question is, how can i test my throttle body? ford mustang gt 4.6L 2007. Before I replace the throttle it definitely had drivability issues. It definitely was in limp mode. Then it drove fine for a few months. No problems. Then the yellow wrench popped up again and it went back into limp mode. Then I replaced the throttle pedal and it drove fine no yellow wrench no codes. Then I had the spark plug issue. After fixing that it drives fine except for that p2135 and the yellow wrench. And the p 2135 does not reoccur on the first drive it always reoccurs on the second Drive

Ok! Don't know if you're still checking comments, but let me throw a scenario at you. 2006 Navigator. Got a CEL, threw a P0506 code, low Idle Air control System RPM. Didn't have any other symptoms that we could tell other than the light! Decided to follow your ETB cleaning procedure, so I did that (using TB cleaner) as well as replace the throttle position sensor while I was in there. Put it all together, and followed this video for the throttle body to relearn. This time, I start the car after clearing the PCM, and it's sputtering like crazy while it idles. RPMs are up and down all over. Engine is in failsafe mode, throwing a few codes related to the idle control areas. Is there somewhere I potentially went wrong? Where should I start troubleshooting? I redid the "relearn" procedure just now, and it's currently idling rough, trying to get it up to operating temp. But the idle smoothness doesn't seem to be getting any better.

In past i noticed my mpg improving after disconnecting negative battery cable only. No other work done. But then after a tank it would go back to a worser mpg. This time i cleaned TB, MAF sensor, PCV, Changed oil from 5w20 full synthetic to 5w30 full synthetic ,per another one of your videos, followed your relearn instructions. Now i know that going from 5w20 to 5w30 may offset any net gain on mpg. However i hope it still gives me some degree of mpg improvement. What say ye? Your videos are a godsend! I have an 1988 Ford Thunderbird with the 5.0 engine. Does your video apply to this model? I changed the Coolant temp switch and the Idler Air Control Valve. I'm planning on doing the throttle body next...I hate to tell you that I just sprayed it on the car and did not remove it, not to mention holding the throttle open to spay inside. Okay I changed my throttle body did everything in this video and everything is great 👍. As soon as I did this 400+ gas mileage, idle is way smoother, better speed. But now though I went to put gas and I'm getting 305 miles to a full tank, it's not as smooth in idle, and doesn't get to speed like it was when I first reset the car for throttle body? darn this wasn't my issue. im getting a short burst of knocks only when i start my 16 fusion. google isn't helping worth a brown log. its like dragging a wrench across some plastic fence posts that are close together. 3-4 knocks after i start it and its gone. happens cold or warm. my step dad put his hand on the throttle body and felt it i could see his arm shake when i heard the noise. so he thought it was that. BUT i also get a gear whirling noise when i let off the accelerator at 60+ mph higher speed the more noticeable. i did it after i hit 100 passing someone and i felt it through the pedal. i just got the engine replaced for the 2nd time after piston failures. this car is an absolute pain in the johnsonville sausage.

BTW, There were no codes prior to the PCM reset. I just ordered the thinkcar THINKOBD 100 OBD2 Scanner on Amazon for $33.89. Hopefully, I can diagnose/fix this Failsafe/Limp Mode issue when it comes tomorrow.

Great Video, I had my MKX 2.7 2016 76,000 in for full service recently. I seen your video about how to properly clean the throttle body and couldn't help myself. I had to check it out. After I was done, ( It wasn’t filthy ,but it was dirty after service I only put on 500 klm. I checked the invoice for 1,600.00 and it did not say they cleaned it. That and the MAP Sensor should be part of a full service I think. Anyway, it seemed fine and idles fine. I will still do as you say. thanks for the info..

"Full service." That term means many things to many people. Cleaning a throttle body and MAF sensor is not part of a routine maintenance service, typically. You have to be specific with what you want.

Thanks..! I have a 95 T- Bird 4.6. And I've noticed that the shift points were higher and not shifting or down shifting,. I know is not the transmission,. So I looked at my manual repair book, to see how the torque converter lock up works, but didn't found any info on it,.so, I'd noticed that by controlling the trotlle by foot I was able to control the shift points,. I knew it was going to affect the PCM since I lost my remote and need to bypass/trick the system by disconnecting ground to start the car every time I need to started.

WTF! I been having a problem woth dlow acceleration and loss of power for almost 1 year but after watching this video i remembered i had taken off my throttle body once or twice for cleaning, so i thought to myself hmmm this might be my issue since i tampered with it, but anyways i just turn my key to the on position and press the gas slowing and released it slowly and so on and it actually freaking worked im so happy

My 2007 Ford F-150 started accelerating like crazy while I was at a stop sign while my foot was firmly on the brake pedal. Any ideas as to why that happened. Thank you very much for your videos.

1999 f250 5.4 2 valve. Truck runs good! My Throttle body rate position sensor is out of range according to live pids. I did clean the throttle body, I'm thinking that it's out of range because I opened the flapit too much during the cleaning. Ford throttle bodies don't like that. Any recs?

I had some throttle position sensor codes and a trans fault on my f150 so I cleaned the throttle body and sensors and took it for a test drive and it still says improper gear ratio 1 and 2 but the engine codes didn't come back. do i need to open my transmission?

Hello. Very nice tips. I have transit 2007 2.3 duratec and the last time in workshop they are clean throttle and say me i dont need do any adaptation. That is true????? Now is little problem when i want dynamic run of car is some of cylinder get off ignition mixture. The computer show me on heat engine and 900 rpm open on throttle 13 degrees and ignition timming 23 degress.I need to make adaptation what you show.I see yua are very smart and you are belive.Thanks.Robert from Poland
