Basics of Flight Plan Filing (February 2022)

Join the dynamic duo of Rob MacLeod and Tim Stahl from ForeFlight's FlightOps Team to learn the essentials of filing flight plans and have your questions answered. The two will walk through the entire filing process, from basic aircraft setup to route planning, filling out the flight plan form, and amending, canceling, opening, and closing flight plans. Although this webinar will focus on filing in the U.S., pilots from other countries will still find much of the material helpful to their own flying.

If you have a plan where you land at two airports on the way to eat and refuel. does that need to be 3 separate flight plans? I don't see a way to set an airport as a waypoint with a landing or a remain time.

Every full stop landing should be treated as a separate flight plan, so yes, if you stop twice before your final destination then you should set the trip up as three separate flight plans. The "Add Next Flight" button at the bottom of the Flights view helps speed this process up by autofilling information that would stay the same between both flight plans (e.g. passengers and payload, starting fuel, etc.)

I suggest if you really want to learn something go to an in person school. I tried on line ground school and that was a joke. Was lost. Went to an in person school and it was so easy. On line is good for supplementation but not a replacement. We need safe pilots, not pilots that learned the minimum on some on line class. Just like, everybody needs to come back into the office.

I know how to chart on a paper map and plan a flight the old fashioned way but No way Can I figure out how to do it in Foreflight. I will get a computer geek to program it to alert me for traffic. This is what I will use foreflight for.

Just curious about your credentials? FAA Flight Dispatcher? I worked as an FAA ATC for 33 years and never heard of such a position? Perhaps since there really is no such thing? A bit of a stretch in your description wouldn’t you say? Perhaps you should not be ashamed to say the you do not work for the FAA and that you are actually an FAA “Certified” Flight Dispatcher? Seems a bit odd that you both feel that a need to present yourselves as something you are not hoping to lead the viewers to believe you are more qualified in some manner? Weird!
