1. Fixed exchange rate system By the government Ensures stability in foreign trade and capital movements. In terms of some " external standards ". When the value of domestic country is tied with any foreign country the process is known as " pegging ". If in the terms of gold then it's known as " parity value ". 2. Flexible exchange rate system Through market forces demand and supply Value of the currency is allowed to fluctuate freely. No official intervention of the government. Exchange rate is determined through interaction of thousands of banks, institutions . Also known as " floating exchange rate system". 3. Managed floating exchange rate system It is hybrid of both fixed and flexible exchange rate system. Under this central bank intervenes to restrict the fluctuations within certain limits. The aim is to keep the exchange rate closer to the targeted value. Its also known as " dirty exchange rate system ".
