Most likely the waitress laughed, because when foreigners try to speak Polish it just sounds cute and funny. Oh, and dont get it wrong. We understand that Polish is overly difficult and we really appreciate it when foreigners at least try to speak our language :)

Once again, great vlog. Interesting to see more of this architecturally beautiful city. The ceilings in the university remind me of some I've seen in cathedrals and chapels in Italy. That market in the old train station was interesting too! Did you buy anything other than the sheep cheese thing? I have been to some markets here that are a combination of arts and crafts etc and then turn into a flea market in another section, with all kinds of odds and ends. Trash n treasure as some call it, (one persons trash is anothers treasure). Reminds me of garage sales too.

Poland started in Greater Poland. Piast dynasty had few important strongholds from where they rulled. And the baptism of Mieszko had place or in Poznań, or in Ostrów Lednicki, or in Gniezno. Giecz was also one of those most important strongholds, but palatium there was never finished. Anyway, all four places are worth to visit because all of them have marks of Poland's first steps as a country. ❤️ [Edit] Also Kalisz was one of those important strongholds.

You’re wrong Rob. People there weren’t selling whatever they found in that market ie. two left shoes etc. This was simply the same as a car boot sale in the UK where you can find the same brick and brack which sometimes is a sad sight too.
@dominik36127
@dominik36127 10 ай бұрын
Nope. You are wrong here. Car boot sale takes place earlier along the tracks. First there is the stall area, then the car boot area and after you walk roughly 1km along the tracks you get to the "piece of plastic on the ground" area. That is were you will find homeless people trying to sell stuff they found or salvaged throughout the week. In the evening they will often just leave what they did not manage to sell and wander off just to return next week with new stuff. I have personally seen one of them trying to sell a few bits and bobs, including single shoes that they found somewhere. Sometimes you can find pretty interesting stuff there if you have patience and are willing to look. Of course buying from them is morally dubious as the proceeding will almost inevitably be spend on alcohol. The other major group in that area are older people who come to sell stuff they have no use for anymore but do not want to throw out. But this is really just a pretext to get out of home and socialize a bit with other people like them. Often is you want to buy something or even ask for a price they get annoyed because you are interrupting them when they enumerate to the 15th person that day every possible health issue they had the past 20 years and complaining about the healthcare system, young people and politicians :)

Once Wrocław and its surroundings were Ślężanie, Piastów, one of the main cities of the Polish kingdom, Czech, belonged to the Habsburgs. It was also called not only Breslau, Wrocław, but also Wratislavia, Vratislav. This part of present-day Poland was German for some time. When we write about history, it is worth doing it honestly
@Rene_Moor3095
@Rene_Moor3095 10 ай бұрын
Wrocław was founded by polish duke Mieszko I in 985. There are no evidences that any settlement existed in this place before that, except some legends and hypothesis. Wrocław and whole Silesia were taken by Czechs in 1335. In 1374 Czechia became part of German Empire. In middle ages Wrocław was settled by Poles, but to the city also many Czechs and Germans were moving. In 1474 Wrocław left Hansa trading union. In 1475 in Wrocław the very first printed text in polish language was done. In 1526 Czechia was joined to Habsburg domain. In 1760 Silesia was taken from Habsburg Empire and joined to Prussia. In 1945 Stalin decided to restore original borders of Poland and Poland regained Down Silesia with ruins of Wrocław in exchange for losing Lwów and Southern-east polish lands. Poland lost Wrocław in 1335 and regained it in 1945. Rounding up, calculations show that Wrocław was 400 years under Polish rule, two centuries under German rule and almost half a millennium under Czech rule. According to the book Mikrokosmos (by Norman Davies), Wrocław has had almost 50 different names throughout history. Today the Germans call the capital of Lower Silesia "Breslau", the Czechs say Vratislav, and the Poles call it Wrocław. There were also Wrotizla, Wretslaw, Presslaw and Bresslau.
