In this video, we decided to walk around a neighborhood where foreigners rarely visit.
Menteng Atas is a small neighborhood in the center of Jakarta, and it's right next to popular destinations like Kuningan and the Kota Kasablanka Mall. But Menteng Atas is a traditional style neighborhood with a kampung (village) feel. We decided to walk around, interact with the locals, and show you a side of Jakarta that you may not have seen before.

It's so nice watching you guys going around that neighborhood and having fun. Several days ago I watched a video of a youtuber from the UK in jakarta. He made a long list of how jakarta is such a terrible place. Watching it made me wonder why he had to come to jakarta and then say bad things in his video. He could've just left. And then people in his comment section were saying how jakarta seemed like an awful place. Watching it made me sad and mad at the same time. I know jakarta is not perfect, but it really isn't that bad. I'm glad you guys can still have fun and enjoy the good things about the city.

Wow that's incredibly unfortunate. We feel like a lot of people are misled on what Jakarta really is. All they see is giant shopping malls, business buildings, and traffic. When the reality is that there is so much wonderful culture, food, and people in Jakarta. Hopefully this can show people like him what he was missing. All they need to do is not believe everything they see online and experience the REAL side of Jakarta for themselves!

I used to work around this area ( Rasuna, Kuningan) and these kampung alleys were my route on the way to work to avoid crazy traffic jam. people in these kampungs are the best, they appreciate greetings and thank yous as well as friendly small talks even if you are struggling with your Bahasa. enjoy the trip guys 👍👍 that beverage you had, called Limun, basically traditional soda with temulawak flavour, I used to have it when I was in elementary school, people has been making it since the Dutch colony era. It used to have colorful bottles before it get too expensive and recycled bottle is used instead.

Jakarta is my birthplace, left it in the mid-fifties and visited it in the mid-nineties on my way to Surabaya, Bali and Australia to visit family there.
