That surprises me. Or did I get anything wrong from your comment for English isn't my mother tongue?

As a German, I had to laugh heartily about the language barrier in the US. Anyone who says this has never been in Germany, often even in the neighboring village 2 kilometers away, a completely different dialect is spoken. It feels like we have a million dialects here.😅 The first reason that comes to my mind are the bad food, followed by cars everywhere, poor (de facto non-existent) social security, working conditions like in the ancient Egyptian Empire, weapons, child-hostile environment, bad environmental awareness .... If I weren't so lazy, I could easily expand this list to 1,000 points.
@ChrisShelley-v2gАй бұрын
He certainly doesn't understand what is being said much of the time, he is getting much of the video the wrong way around (regarding the meaning), like you in Germany, here in the UK dialects differ greatly and to the point where some may as well be a different language, I think that he isn't seeing the "problems" because he is from the US and so just accepts it as being normal/the same for everyone regardless of where you are from.

You seemed confused about the raciam tensions one, but every time I've visited the US (5 total) I've witnessed racism. My parents are interracial, dad is African American and Mum white English. The very first time my mum visited my dad's home state they even got treated poorly by black Americans. Decades ago my dad decided to never go back and has settled permanently in the UK where he feels much safer and experiences less racism. Being mixed race myself, I have pretty much experienced no visible racism in my life here or anywhere else in Europe.

I was genuinely perplexed why he was confused. I've been to countries which have been considered racist and even their citizens say they don't like how racist the USA is. As a black European go into the USA feels so different,, and you get Treat it so much better when they hear that you are not an African American.

The thing is that it is easy to say that as a native English speaker... But I find it ironic because there are plenty of Americans who don't understand a single thing that other English Speaking nations say! I cannot lie there are a lot of Americans which I don't understand what they are saying but for you to say a language barrier isn't an issue from somebody whose English isn't their first language or can barely speak is crazy because we are privileged to be able to go to other countries and people actually able to talk our language...

Brit here 🇬🇧 The first time I visited was in 2012. I wasn't very aware of American culture or government. The only thing I remember is the food making me really sick. Fast forward 12 years and you couldn't pay me to live in US. Apart from the obvious points, I find the concept of rights and individualism so destructive. It's seems like the country is rerouting itself in separatism whilst at the same time declaring that it wants liberty and justice for all. It's just not true. And if I'm being honest I think it's destroying the whole country. I'm not saying that everything is bad, but just to be a bit kinder to each other and work together would make things so much better for It's citizens.

i often have the feeling in europe its more of an accidental or didn't think about it racism (like blackfacing because there was no colored actor immediately available, so they didn't search for one and just used paint), or doing things other countries consider racist (like having white-only study-groups, etc. (but again, not because colored people are not invited, but because there just werent any at the creation of the groups), while america has more malicious racism that really is done because of hate.

I think the language barrier was misinterpreted by the narrator in the video. It's not that Europeans don't understand Americans - Americans don't understand dialects. We are used to dialects, we are surrounded by different languages in almost every country.
@zubi99952 ай бұрын
the language is a problem mostly to the older generation. You see, only 40 years ago a big part of europe was under soviet occupation, meaning people were tought russian instead of english. Somewhat high quality english lessons are quite a new thing in these countries, still most people speaking fluently learned the language from playing video games, watching movies and talking with people

Language: I've followed you for a while and there's a few things you've said that I get that it means "enthusiasm" or that you're being enthusiastic about something, but there's a fair amount of slang that I just don't get - I only just learned what an MVP is, but I do think that most of this is evening out with a lot of the world online and learing each others language - it's getting a bit easier all round I think. This is simply an echo of events in the US that reaches Europe. No one in Europe closely follows what’s happening in the States, and they certainly don’t analyze it. Therefore, it’s more like a barometer of European sentiment-without much connection to the reality in the US.
@garancecauchemar14392 ай бұрын
Let me guess, you are from the US? As an European, it's not a barometer. Europeans are well aware where the (for us) fundamental problems in the US are. We prefer not going bankrupt only because we need a surgery, we prefer working to live and not living to work. We like to have decent affordable foot which doesn't make us sick. We prefer spending our time with our newborn instead of being forced back to work. We prefer staying at home when we are sick instead of loosing our job. We prefer to have the possibility to go on vacation for three weeks instead of having only a free weekend
@AK-qv2im2 ай бұрын
@@garancecauchemar1439 Relax. I’m European. The point is that Europeans have no idea what they’re talking about when they talk about America. @@AK-qv2im I do not agree with you. Many US-Americans tell nonsense about Europe because they don´t know much about it (not even where to find Europe on a map) and are not interested in Europe as usually they don´t talk any other language than English. However, many, many Europeans are very well informed about the US simply because most Europeans under the age 70 talk English - apart from the ones who lived in eastern Europe - and watch a lot of US-american TV, including news channels.
@AK-qv2imАй бұрын
@@femaleonthewatch I don’t know where you got the idea that having CNN on your cable network means you’re well-informed about American affairs. Just look at how American news channels are received in Europe, and you’ll see it’s virtually non-existent. The viewership numbers are minuscule. Sure, there’s the Internet, but these days it’s more of a battleground between stupidity and propaganda. It’s the same in the U.S. when it comes to Europe. The number of people following serious political events on either side of the Atlantic is microscopic. This is evident in all studies-repeating stereotypes is absolutely common. Secondly, you’re greatly overestimating the quality of education in Western Europe while underestimating it in Eastern Europe (though you probably mean Central Europe, since Eastern Europe is mostly outside the EU). Europe no longer looks like it did in the 1980s.
