Hurricane Winds During Our North Dakota Match

We made it. Four states in four days from Illinois to North Dakota with golf at every stop. Last but not least is the #1 public course in North Dakota, Hawktree Golf Club. Of course this trip wasn't going to end quietly as this was far and away the hardest day of golf we had with winds whipping consistently at 40+ mph. What a way to end one of the best trips we've done.

I a native to Bismarck, lived here most of my life, moved around the States a bit, but this is home. As a North Dakotan, we get maybe four months to play each year, possibly five, so we play in the wind and whatever else, as long as it’s over 50 degree! I used to work for bridgestone golf and would do a event their every year so I've played it a few times I didn't think best course in state when I played it that's forsure.

Shoulda made it over to the true number 1 course in ND The links of North Dakota. It historically is number 1 every year it doesn’t have bad winter kill. Such a better course just doesn’t have the money Hawktree does but they did just have a donor for a 5 mil irrigation project to curb many of the issues. Historically it seemed like we would have a good couple years and then bad winter kill a couple years where the course isn’t pristine until July-august. I understand when they rate it and the fairways aren’t perfect that it loses points but when it’s in good shape there is no better course. The layout and views are far and away the best in the state. We’ve had quite a few pros come over and say it’s the best links course outside of Scotland. An absolute true hidden gem. You can play it in pristine condition on a Saturday in perfect weather and be one of 5 people on the course

Wind is caused by uneven heating of the earth's surface, hot air rises at the equator and sinks at the poles, that being said when the hot air rises it is replaced by cooler air causing a continuous circuit. atmospheric pressure gradients and surface friction also play a role in speed and direction of the wind.

Fellow ND resident. As a golf nerd and especially for architecture I’m not a fan of bully at all. It is a ok vacation course with incredible views. The actual golf course itself is very meh besides 14-16. The Links of ND is far and away the best course in the state for layout and views. Only reason it hasn’t been number 1 the past couple years like it always used to be is due to some water issues that due to a generous donor an irrigation project should have that totally fixed. Excited to see it back on top where it belongs. Bully pulpit however I don’t think is worth it if you go expecting great golf. Unreal views, meh golf
