LiDAR data are currently available for the forested southeast of Minnesota, and should be available for northeast Minnesota in January 2012. A year later, data will be available for the north central region. LiDAR data, combined with ground plots, will allow for desktop estimates of woody vegetation, biomass, productivity, structural elements (height, density, type, leaf area), and when combined with image data, the mapping of species and functional groups by landform. In this webinar, learn about the limitations and potential applications of LiDAR and what is required to use the data. This overview will be targeted at professional forestry land managers. Hands-on training for GIS technicians will be offered later in the year and will be announced during the webinar.
