Hang out with me in the woods as I quickly and easily rip out large invasive honeysuckle. The Kubota L3301 with Wicked Grapple and thumb equipped BH77 backhoe makes grubbing bushes as easy as picking daisies.

I have been shopping for tractor. Looked at rk37 today , decided to forgo the backhoe attachment for heat and cool cab , after this backhoe video , I will rent an excavator, nice video, Thank yu for the demo .

Sounds good! I personally would much rather have a backhoe than a cab. But it really all depends on your application. I planted 4 large maple trees with my backhoe this week. It is nice to have a backhoe available to jump on and start digging. Renting can be a real hassle. But for lots of digging an excavator is king!! Goodluck with the RK tractor. And thank you for the comments!

Lol!! It’s a nice one! Husqvarna forestry helmet. I like it much better than Stihl’s version.

Wouldn't it be faster and easier to rip that honey suckle up with the grapple? I don't see a reason to use the BH for that. What size is the grapple? 60"?
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 5 жыл бұрын
You could do that however it would disturb all the soil in the woods. I want to preserve the ground and only remove the bushes. The backhoe does an awesome job and leaves most of the dirt in the hole.

ProjectKing I've removed honeysuckle with just the bucket cutting edge contacting near the ground and pushing it out. I have a 60" single lid grapple on order and a lot of work waiting for it. A piranha tooth bar on bucket would work great too for removing the brush.
@ProjectKing

Sounds good. Yes I have Piranha tooth bars on both of my tractors with loader. Excellent product

I have 3901. Thank you for the information for the Backhoe . I wanted to ask is it much problem to disconnect three point hook ups, and how much time does it normally take you to make the switch each time that you want to attach your Backhoe
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 6 жыл бұрын
No problem! I think it takes around 10 mins to unhook backhoe and install 3 point hardware. Keep in mind I have never installed the 3 point hardware because I have two other tractors with 3 points. So backhoe stays on my L3301 nearly all the time. You can get telescoping 3 point hardware that makes adjusting 3 point a lot easier and installing would be faster too I think. Feel free to ask more questions. I strongly suggest buying a backhoe from Kubota and not getting an aftermarket brand. The back hoe is very handy. If you had to dig lots of water line trenches or something like that renting a mini excavator would be better. But for general digging tasks having a backhoe available at a moments notice is awesome.

Is your backhoe a 3 pt hitch attachment or frame mount? If it is 3 pt hitch, have you had any issues? My late dad was an excellent backhoe operator at his job and he bought a small Kubota (not sure the model) for personal use and I'd like to have one myself. Also curious on a ballpark price for the setup you have. I know it's different in every state but the dealers will not list the price online so you have to fill out aggravating forms.
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 4 жыл бұрын
It is mounted to a subframe. Very rugged. I do not like 3 point mounted backhoes. Not strong enough. I like Kubota by far for tractor mounted backhoe. You can get a good deal on L2501 with loader and backhoe. You can assume around 10 to 15 percent discount for machine from dealer based on MSRP on Kubota website. There’s a dealer in KY named Barlow. They have excellent prices! Depending on where you are this maybe an option. I believe they will even ship you the tractor. A lot of dealers sell near MSRP which is a rip off. Good luck

@@ProjectKing Cool. The only bad thing about that to me is I need a bush hog more than I need a backhoe so a frame-mounted hoe would not work for me unless it was easy to remove and still had a 3 pt hitch. I don't trust the hitch mounted hoes either.
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 4 жыл бұрын
You have to install the 3 point arms but you do not have to remove the subframe. If you are going to only use a backhoe a few times then renting maybe the best option.

Great vid. I'm in the market for a grapple myself so I'm doing a lot of research on different brands. What brand and size is this? Also I plan on installing the 3rd function valve myself, what brand is that one?

Are they too big for a brush mower?
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 5 жыл бұрын
Yes many of them are. And then the roots are still in the ground. Digging out is an effective way to control them without using brush killer

Yes great eye you have. B2650 backhoe joysticks. And I shifted seat back around 6 to 8 inches. Makes running backhoe much more comfortable. I discuss this in my new tractor video.

They make lots of types of grapples, I got a Bradco 60 inch for my Mahindra 1526. They also make different third function setups to operate it. Mine came with a single button but they also make a two button one. One button opens and the other closes. I do believe the two button setup would be lots better. My grapple weighs 420 lbs and I do believe I could tear down a building with it. Best attachment for any kind of clean up.

Very nice looking Tractor. Question. If you put the rippers down in your boxblade could you back over those trees, go forward, hook them and lift them out? Just wondering. Thanks. Mark.
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I think that would work pretty well. The only issue would be getting box blade to go down when on top of brush. 3 point doesn’t have down pressure. If you cut the bushes off about 12” off the ground the box blade may work better

Hey brother I have a l2501 on the way and figured I'd ask ya how hard is it to go from back hoe to 3 pt. ? I ordered mine with a BH and rotary cutter so will be swapping back and forth rather often. Thanks for the awesome videos!
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 6 жыл бұрын
Good question. To give you short answer... I don’t know. My backhoe stays on all the time. I’ve never installed 3 point arms because I have two other tractors with 3 point. I’m estimating time to switch from backhoe to 3 point at around 10 to 15 mins. I would encourage you to get up grade three point stabilizers. They make some telescoping version that is much easier to use when connecting to a bushhog vs stock ones. You can get from Kubota dealer.

Thanks for the quick reply! I will definitely get the upgraded ones. 15 minutes ain't half bad at all. I'd love to have another tractor just for landscaping but not quite there yet!

Did you get the honeysuckle under control? My woods is the same way and it seems overwhelming to think about getting rid of them all.
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve been slowly tearing it all out. I do a little at a time. I know some people cut it and the spray brush killer on the stump. This is more effective if you have a large amount of woods. Good luck!

This is exactly the kind of work I need to do. Great to see how well your L3301 handles it. Is that a 12" backhoe bucket?
@ProjectKing
@ProjectKing 6 жыл бұрын
Yes it works great at removing the honeysuckles! They have a shallow root system and the backhoe can pop them out very easily. Yes the bucket is a 12”. Works great for this type work because it disturbs less dirt.

I would. That way you can leave the backhoe on the tractor. I would not want to mow a yard with the L3301. A BX will mow much better.
