sati is the starting point to gain the power to see what happen in your mind. main point of mediation = it given us to clearly understand the differnce between busy and clear mind . some one may not know is happend in your mind. longer longer time for clear mind during mediation given you more understand the power of sati. now, you start to use sati to see from very small period of time, hopefully you can expand sati in every single breaths. during this is time you will feel really heavy in your mind because sati always look at your mind.

Good to hear you Emily! Go Amaravati winter retreat 2020-2021! 😅 It is great that you are in a meditation monastery, emphasizing and respecting samadhi 🙏 may I have the same motivation and paramis 🙏 No activities at all, no reading... It must be hard at times, to face the mind and its habits like that... Raw! I imagine a little bit of reading U Tejaniya could feel good. But I'm sure you have enough teachings in you to use, and in the end... It's really good (and rare) to give samatha a real go. For a period of one's life... Several months, maybe a year or two... Then see. After it's over, looking back, it will be greatly beneficial and insightful 🙏

The 5 parts anapanasati meditation are the ways that will train your mind to be concentrated and to be developed so as to rise above avijja and to climb the 16 step of wisdom knowledge to ENLIGHTMENT. Below are the 16 vipasanna nanas that will become visible to those who practice these 5 step breathing contempation which is the correct way of practicing ANAPANASATI that leads to insight knowledge that are require to reach Sotopanna,Sakadagami, Anagami, Arahat.

Venerable Ajahn, Similar to you just said in this teaching about doing buddo all day, I also heard talk by Ajahn Chah if you can breath during the day then you can do buddho or meditation even when not sitting. But how can you make decisions or do complicated activities when you are focusing on the buddho?
@nolifeonearth9046
@nolifeonearth9046 2 жыл бұрын
He spoke about it in a talk. If you work on some complicated task, you cannot keep sati on the internal object, because your task is outside. He said it here, too, that required thinking is incompatible with buddho practice.

Samadhi in vipasanna is short durations and do not last very long when compare to samatha jhanna. In vipassana samadhi it will continue to push forward if your practice is balance of the 5 power(faith, effort, mindful, concentration, wisdom) If this 5 power is not parallel or balance it will not push forward to ENLIGHTMENT. It must not be too strong or too weak.All 5 power or faculty must be parallel or balance like middle way only then ENLIGHTMENT can be accomplish. Suppose in vipasanna after you reach samadhi and your 5 power is not parallel/balance, you will automatically fall back again to breathing contemplation so as to readjust itself until it is balance. Then ATTAINMENT is accomplish. So the above explain about vipasanna, samadhi and the relation to the 5 power once is parallel/balance one enter NIBANNA. Now let's come to SAMATHA 4th jhanna. Why samatha strong 4th jhanna still cannot become ENLIGHTED? If you refer to above vipasanna explaination carefully you can see that i explain the samadhi in vipasanna and the 5 power relationship. In samatha 4th jhana is very strong and that too strong jhanna in samatha are the cause of not able to reach ENLIGHTMENT. So the important point here to understand is the different of samadhi in vipasanna and jhanna in samatha is : Samadhi in vipassana when it is too weak it will readjust itself until it is parallel/balance because it has WISDOM (can see aniccha, dukkha, anatha) So when it can self adjust the 5 power it can go to ENLIGHTMENT. In samatha the jhanna is too strong and it do not have WISDOM (cannot see aniccha, dukkha, anatha) So it cannot adjust itself So the practice cannot reach ENLIGHTMENT. That is the reason one with too strong jhanna has to train the mind to vipasanna again to gain WISDOM so as to see aniccha, dukkha, anatha and to readjust the 5 faculty before one can become ENLIGHTED. My experience has attain enlightment to Sotopanna and that is why it become possible for me to explain it clearly for you meditation practioner the correct understanding of vipasanna and samatha. I disclose my attainment not of conceit or out of pride but out of metta for i knoe the path to ENLIGHTMENT is WONDERFUL but it take lots of energy and determination and WISDOM to accomplish. I sincerely wish everyone here who are so devoted chasing after ENLIGHTMENT by their question derive from their practice are so touching. Seeing their sincere persue and faith in the BUDDHA, it prompted me after hearing one of the devotee here asking AJHAN about the vipasanna samadhi and samatha jhanna and their differences and about ENLIGHTMENT. The article is taken with care to write and it will sure be very benefiting to one who has attain to samadhi and jhanna. Time of writting this article is from 3 am to 4.30 am Sunday 22,August 2012 May all come to attainment in this life. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI.

Our six senses i will start with the 5 senses: Here the 5 sense are the one that are sending outside activities and the six one is the mind(the sixth sense that is the receiver and just merely concious of the received activities. If without the 5 senses sending the activities the mind (the six sense) will be dormant and non operational. But samasara and nibanna are not the same mind. This is very great misconception of every meditator who think is the same mind. They thought this samsara mind when reach jhanna is calm and it should be the same one when enter nibanna. This i will not want to elaborate because it is impossible to do that. The mind which is the six senses are tricky it is the one that need to be stop. When one stop the 5 sense the six one will decay. Just like when one stop adding fire wood to the flame, the flame will also stop. This is the same as the 5 sense which is the fire wood and the flame is the mind. It is the mind that keep everything past and presant as memory. It is keeping dukkha seeds for planting it karma to become operative so as to keep one ongoing endless rebirth. Vipasanna mind purification is to do away with everything from the 5 senses and the six one that is the mind will stop and decay. This is the ceaseation(ceaseation is not mind that is cleared it is no more mind the mind is burnt out no avijja mind no more exist in samsara) when one experience nibanna. Nibanna do not need samsara mind. Samsara mind(Avijja mind) is thrown away when one enter nibanna upon ceaseation of conciousness. So here again i will not Continue to explain nibanna. If but explaining nibanna and everyone can understand it then that is not nibanna. It is impossible to explain NIBANNA. That is why the BUDDHA say COME AND EXPERIENCE IT YOURSELF. So it will be impossible for one who has not expereience ceaseation of six senses to understand. One become attainer or stream enterer when ceaseation happen. This is rare cases as today very few are able to reach path and fruition. At this ceaseation one become ARIYA. Sotopana, Sakadagami, Anagami, Arahat. Ariya at this ceaseation mostly Sotopana or Sakadagami,Anagami. Not Arahat yet. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI

5th Nana: Bangha Nana Here the yogis continue to meditate. And he sees his breathing only the end of rising and the end of falling. In this level the yogis are able to sense object that strike at the six sense door and able to observed them. As he note, it pass away rapidly. The yogis here again experience anicha, dukkha, anatha. As the yogis only see the end of rising and the end of fallings in the breathing contemplation. Here the yogis when observed the form and shape of head body, legs, hands, abdomen it become not clear and disappear. Yogi cannot feel the body. The body seem to dissppear. Now yogi can only feel motion. 6. Bhaya Nana Insight knowledge of fear. Fear of being stuck to being birth after birth and death. As yogis continue to note and see rapid passing away the khanda of rupa and nama, the yogi think one's life can also pass away at any moment. This realization is the development of BHAYA nana. 7. Adinava Nana Insight knowledge of Danger. Yogi start to become wiser knowing the danger if stop practicing vipasanna breath contemplation. He realise that there is no other way to escape but to continue vipasanna breath awareness. The yogis upon reflecting to this khanda of rupa and nama are ceesealessly passing away, the yogis see danger and dukkha of having body and the khandas. 8. Nibbida Nana Insight knowledge of Disenchantment. The yogis concious mind become bored with khanda of rupa and nama.The yogis Who are experience in the subject of noting breathing contemplation and yet he seem to think there is no more improvement. Yogis begin to feel uncertain and become weary. The on another thought, the yogis reflects on human form are sufferrings he begin to realizes there is no escape if he continue to be uncertain. He reflect again that he must not stop noting but to continue if he wants to escape these endless cycle of pain, thinking and thoughts which is dukkha. 9. Muncitu Kanyata Nana Insight knowledge of Desire for Deliverance. Yogis at this state suddenly begin to desire seriously to be liberated from human birth where the 5 khanda exist and wishes to go to the place where there are no such phenomenor. The yogis while in vipasanna meditation see there is a way to escape. Having this insight means MUNCITU KAMYATA nana has developed.
