Perfect choice of the music for the video.

She was a very beautiful elegant lady well ahead of her time. Wish she had done more TV and films. Hollywood dismissed her just because she wouldn't play by their rules, so sad. She was too good for them. RIP Beautiful Maila ❤️💖❤❤

we shant see the likes of her again, as a boy in the 60s she fasinated me ,scary and sexy , the original vamp and first class women she was the coolest . it's nice that many others have not forgotten this classy and wonderfull lady. i would hope she would have known how many fans she had and still has, screwed by hollywood but loved to death by her fans she will always have her place in the hearts of true horror fans. The Original Horror Godess and Vamp. We are yours & miss you...

Absolutely true ! Same here ! I don´t know, where my fascination for this woman comes from, ...I mean,concerning this woman, I behave like a teenage-girl at a boy-group-concert, like a newly enamored boy . And all that, because of a "girl" that´s 50 years older than me, and already deceased ... strange phenomenon.

Although I like the gothic-look, my favourite pictures are the two from 0:20 - 0:35 , which are showing her in another - for her untypical- style. Timeless beauty. One of the most attractive women of the 20th century ! Wow !

OMG - you've chosen my favourite piece of music ever (with the possible exception of Venus) to memorialize one of my favourite women ever! Thank you so much :) Beautiful...

Although I grew up in L.A., I was way too young to watch her TV show & knew almost nothing about her or the show until a couple of years ago. Since then I've been fascinated, but haven't found much info about her. Finally, Wikipedia has a brief entry including the story of the show. It also describes what the brief clips that can be found on KZbin & the Vampira website are & why there aren't more. She & the show's producer started the whole horror movie host concept & inspired Elvira, MOTD.

What a face! Why wasn't she a mega-star? She could have made silent films. She looks very powerful. I'm glad I found out about her through the movie, Ed Wood.

Too fetish like maybe she got dismissed for the overt sexuality of the character perhaps. Femme fatalish.

I could see her absolutely in Metropolis . Yes silent movies, also would have been perfect star for 1935 talkie movie " SHE "

Me too! I came across her last year and I absolutely love her! I just wish that I discovered her a long time ago! She is the most fascinating, intelligent authentic, beautiful actress who was well ahead of her time. She had a very tough time. She was too good for Hollywood. RIP Beautiful Maila ❤️

Perhaps intentional, as she often namechecked Gloria Swanson's character as a big influence.

Are there any of the original shows left? I think a long time ago they ran a special on TV and I remember seeing a few minutes of footage of her show. She could scare you one minute and seduce you the next. I'm sorry that her show ran for such a short time because Vampira really had some great stage presence . Very beautiful woman,

Imagine the utter joy which many of us experienced back in the 1950's when we could watch these late night horror film hosts/hostesses! Many of the big cities had their own "ghouls". I know that it was the highlight of MY week to watch Bestoink Dooley (George Ellis) in Atlanta serve up the horror film classics. But Vampira was but a black and white photo in Famous Monsters or those few fantastic scenesin Plan 9 for most of us.
@dontaylor73155 жыл бұрын
My experience exactly. The Shock Theatre host where I lived was a man in black at a station broadcasting out of San Antonio. He also played Captain Gus, the host of an afternoon cartoon show that featured old Popeye shorts. Plan 9 and Famous Monsters were my only contact with Vampira, just as you said.
