In 1973 when I made the trip from New Jersey to California in my girlfriend's Camaro (with an 8 track player), the first album I listened to every morning as my adventure began anew was "Who's Next". It's playing on my car stereo right now. The Who have seen me through both the good times and the bad times. I can't think of a better group. May God have mercy on Sinead's soul.

I can't believe it, I cried! Growing up we had big family gatherings, in the early 1900's my grandmother came to the US from Ireland as a teen, believing the streets were paved in gold. She married, had six children, her husband, my grandfather, died from a tetanus infection, his brother came around to check on her and they eventually married and had another four kids! Except for a cousin or two, they're all gone. As soon as the dancers appeared I spontaneously reacted, surprised the hell out of me.

This is from the Music of Pete Tonhend tour Roger did. At the time he thought the Who would never tour again. It came out on CD years ago called A celebration. Here he was with the Chieftains. Pete and John played on some dates but not on the same songs, Roger thought he needed the big stars and the orchestra at the time or no one would come hear him sing. He just sang Who songs and the sea refuses no river. There are some strange choices of songs. Imagine a man, always liked that song. After the fire and The song is over. He lost of lot of money doing this tour.paying for an orchestra every night is not cheep. For him the tour was more about him saying I’m alive and I want to keep singing. Reminding people that he can still sing.

Natürlich kannte ich "The Who" schon vorher, vor allem vom legendären Doppelalbum "Tommy". Aber dieses Lied schlug bei mir ein wie eine Bombe. Hoffentlich hört man noch viel von Roger Daltrey und Pete Townshend. Roland.

One of the many reasons I love Bob Dylan is he never performs a song the same way twice. I don't understand why people knock Richie Blackmore's newer versions of his classic rock songs. I thought this version was great fun, Daltry and everyone on stage were having a good time and that's what music's all about. It'll be a sad day when music stops evolving.
@blackmore45 жыл бұрын
@@KayEl58 True but brilliant melodies don't need to "evolve". I'm all for playing around with arrangements but when it comes to the key musical elements, most of the bored artist "interpretation" of work they'd rather not be performing I've ever heard has been rancid.

I read about this performance on line, so I wanted to see it. Art evolves and takes risks. You should go to Nashville some time. It isn't about silly Southern drama, that's for the tourists. It is about the world's greatest musicians, from all genres, getting together and performing just to see what happens. People go to venues just to be a part of the creative process, even if it is as part of the audience. This is allowing all kinds of artists to perform a piece that they would never get to do otherwise and everyone is having the time of their life. O'Conner was singing back up and the sound wasn't right, not her fault. Good thing the real audience could feel the energy and enjoy it.

Rocked up Irish trad can be a bit cringey especially when the dancers arrive but this for me is an exception to that rule. Inspired idea to pick this particular track and The Chieftains giving it socks. Sound engineers nightmare, maybe but brilliantly arranged, as in - not too long. And dear Sinéad, magic as usual and dare I say it looking particularly sexy. Bualadh Bos. Well done, everyone. Life affirming stuff. Must have been a thrill to see it live.

I loved watchin the cellists picking the moment when the vocals end. Especially since at one point in time the Who couldn't budget for cello players, so they had to record "A Quick One" with them all saying "cello, cello, cello, cello, etc."

If you play this performance, start at 52 seconds, and play Miles silvas "away days" , start at his written name after the brief intro, simultaneously it is dashed jolly perfection. The music and skateboarding sync up quite magically. And the music keeps going after the part is over right when the dancing starts.
