The island in the portal is mirror plant island from the main game. (You press the mirror button on the map) The workshop is a new island. This is teasing 3 elemental ethereals on a new ethereal related island. Those little critter things represent 1 ethereal element based on their color I believe. And yes, the ethereal workshop is all inside of the ethereal colossals head.
