Forged Bottle Opener, Hammer, Hatchet: Triple Build!

Recently we had the opportunity to learn forging techniques as well as Power Hammer tips and tricks from the amazingly talented Brent Bailey at an event in Montana. When I got back, it was finishing/handling time. This build was suggested/powered by my Patreon crew. Thanks all o' ye'!

Brett McAfee just wondering... what was the biggest challenge for you when you were learning at the smithing workshop? Was is challenging? You seemed to breeze through it. Had you done anything like it in the past?

Biggest challenge is getting over the "this looks extremely difficult and I'll feel like an idiot when I screw up" phase. I had taken a few classes in the years before youtubery stuff, and watched tons and tons of videos. #notaprofessional but I took the time to research a lot before hand, and honestly it comes down to just getting to it. I have countless mistakes I learned from in the beginning, but I can really tell how far we've come in the last year or so. I did the "Shadow Axe" about a year ago...I thought it was a big achievement to refinish a head and handle it...and now here we are.

That was an amazing opportunity to take that class. It’s amazing how much more work you can get done with a power hammer. They can really move a lot of metal. If the head would have flown off that hammer on me, it would have gone straight for the camera. You are a lucky man. As always. Amazing video.

Really nice cliffhanger you have there! The tools came out great, have to say the bottle opener is still my favorite of the bunch. You know what's funny? Every video I've seen where someone makes a handle for a hammer/axe/whatever, they ALWAYS show the wooden wedge, then driving in the wooden wedge, then only (what I assume is) the metal being driven down. I believe in the whole of KZbin there is not one video where you see the metal wedge as a whole 😆

Crushed up/powdered coal. I've also heard of guys mixing coal and bees wax together so they can keep it in manageable tins/containers.

Those forges in the video are made out of some pipe fittings and old Propane tanks lined with kale wool. There are some very cost effective ways of building one. Make it so!

"easy" is a relative term. Controlling your head and a few hours of beating metal get shown as 2 minutes on camera...but for the most part, it aint astrophysics. Also, keep us posted on you workshop, excited to see what you do with it!
