If there's one thing I've learned from these competitions, it's to not run your mouth. Forging is a complex art that even masters can mess up, due to some uncontrollable variables. You really want to say something like that, knowing full well something can so easily go wrong?

Right? That handle is OK for the kitchen, but I wouldn't use a handle like that for anything I had to fight with if I had any other option.

I was genuinely perplexed at Larry's final sword. Props for winning against all the others and getting to finals. I even liked his reworked "Plan B" creation but that handle..... I can't get over what might have inspired that handle. Wider at the top than the bottom? And yet it was so carefully crafted I cant convince myself it was an accident. As a work of skill, its wonderful. As a sword its baffling to me.

The message on this sword is like a blessing to the Xtian god & or saint given there are a number of blades w/ similar inscriptions. After all if you were a medieval knight you'd want to do all that is possible to keep you safe including calling upon the divine powers, much like fighters & soldiers still do to this day.

As soon as he said “either do it right or don’t do it at all” I thought it sounded like a pretty dumb expression, it just throws everything about learning from your failures and practice and everything out the window, “if you can’t do something the first time don’t do it at all” is basically a preposition that follows from that expression, glad he had to eat those words up lol

I wonder how durable it is over time? Can the leather maintain its shape, or will it get deformed with constant usage? Of course it will be more of a display today, just considering its intended function in the medieval times.

NOPE! No one knows for sure who forged it or why it was in the river. If it had in fact been wielded by a Norseman during a Viking raid that could explain why it was in the river though.

And pre-Christian Germanic tribesman inscribed runes onto their swords, axes and armor to "endow the items with magical powers," the Fyris Swords Project researchers wrote in a paper published in the journal Waffen- und Kostümkunde (Weaponry and Costumes) in 2009.
