Hello. Not to disparage the contestants but their imitations of àdá (the first weapon demonstrated, used and still in use by the Yorùbás in West Africa) are quite inaccurate both in design and appearance. In fact, they looked liked Roman swords rather than àdás. First of all, àdá is forged from iron and has a wooden handle that encapsulate the lowest part of the blade. Àdá actually has a muted silvery appearance when new but darkens to dark brown-grey with use. It is a single edged weapon or tool. I stated weapon or tool because it's used as a weapon and for agriculture. Two, except for smaller, more slender ones used by children, àdá has three to four shallow but very visible grooves that run longitudinally on the blade from the level of the hilt of the handle to about two-thirds of the blade, leaving the remaining one-third plain. The grooves are on both sides of the blade. Also, the Yorùbás are actually not the only tribe which use the àdá, as the other tribes like Igbo, Ijaw, Urhobo, and Edo also use it. Also, the host should have been country specific when referring to the àdá's history. I've watched clips of other episodes and even while referring to tribes, the host was country specific. It's insulting when people always do this when it comes to Africa. Respect us enough to mention the specific country in Africa the tribe(s) you mentioned are from. Africa is not a nameless monolith so stop treating us as such. All the tribes I mentioned in this comment are found in the modern state of Nigeria and yes, I'm a Yorùbá woman from that country; plus, I used àdás when I was younger. (Can still use them if occasion demands, actually.) Shalom everybody.
