It looks a lot like the reamer tool part of a tire repair kit, the kind that uses the tarred rope plugs.

Cold winter Ohio day, in the garage/shop working with the forge = great day. I like the Gimlet, if it had a reverse twist, could made an easy out, for broken bolts and such.

I think that some gimlets actually produce the beginnings of wood screw threads for dedicated wood screws.

Thanks Dave
@onebackzach4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if making it triangular or using the edge of the anvil to create fluting on each flat face of the gimlet would create sharper edges and potentially make it more effective at cutting the wood fibers. I imagine it probably isn't worth the extra effort, but it would be interesting nonetheless

Dave...if you were to forge it square and then file 90 degree edges then twist it, the 90 degree edges would possibly cut better thru wood or leather........just a thought

Now you gave me and idea I'm going to try and make in my forge. Basicly make that but give some wings like a paddle bit for a drill that can cut it both directions. Keep the eye hook for the toggle but add some groves under so I can cause a fire bow in short to spin it. May work may not. How effective do you think that would work or would it not be practical?
@OrionsAnvil4 жыл бұрын
Great video. i didn't know what a gimlet was and after a google search i was curious how you were going to forge a tasty citrus adult beverage ;) i'll probably have to make one of these, the tool that is. ;)

Quite interesting video. I have never heard of heated metal going nonmagnetic. What temperature does it have to reach? What are the uses of this phenomenon, is it a way to tell the temperature of steel?
@Pygar24 жыл бұрын
Love to see him making a magnet by letting the metal cool aimed North. Some sources say the metal had to be struck several times, some don't. Easy experiment, and interesting?

Interesting tool. Would this have been used for general wood working projects, or is there a more specific use for it, and would they have made these in various sizes for bigger projects.

David? Where on Earth did you find a stove saying "Christ Loves" in Greek language?! It also has His symbol under that! "Χριστός Αγαπάει" it says. IXP the symbol underneath, means Ιησούς Χριστός (Jesus Christ) Α - Ω :Alpha and Omega meaning he's the beggining and the end.
