What a great video. I love the idea of welding the tooling perpendicular for more surface area. I've always thought that forging a swage block would be neat you're the first person I've seen attempt it. I seen your video forging the swage block with the power hammer. Look forward to watching you forge by one by hand

Awesome ! If you don't have the tool make it.. Great mind set Roy .. This is worth more than the time it shows on the video. Learning every time you make a tool kind of thinking !

Such a totally inclusive tools to make a tool video! I personally loved it. And find your oration as we go through the steps and the reasoning for the procedure quite in lightening! Bring as how it's been 4 years since you created this I'ma little late but that changes not the relevance in the information. As an addendum to the handle design most specifically in light of the power hammer, hydraulic press and fly press application, I'd love to hear your thoughts on stiffer cable handle application. IMHO they are the bomb, as I learned using them at John Coffee Forge! God bless ya brother hope to see you soon Crawford out 🙏🏻🔥⚒️🧙🏼♂️

I may have missed it, but are you using hardenable steel for either the tools or the block? Or is everything just mild
@Nitro-er8ul3 жыл бұрын
I believe the block itself is a medium carbon Air hardening steel and the Tooling is mild
@Nitro-er8ul3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about air hardening I was just shooting the shit

Why does that reddish scale form on steel when it's water quenched out of a propane forge?

What is a swage block?
@samuellogan85887 жыл бұрын
My swage block weighs 180 pounds it's 14.5 inch square and 5.5 inch thick starting to regret buying it because it's a pain to put on its end to use the swages I bought it with out seeing it so didn't know the size off it 😂 maybe I'll make a small one like yours
@garycnuddejr40137 жыл бұрын
I just seen a guy who had a large one too. He made a some type devise that allowed him to turn it without lifting it by hand.

Gary Cnudde Jr that's a good idea I might look into that

Finally find a interesting topic but I had to keep hitting the jump ahead button. This was sooooo slow with waaaay to much rambling. Go forge already!
