The name for the "hurricane spots” are actually called sink holes. This is due to the cooling and shrinkage of the molten jolly rancher. It’s a common issue in plastic injection solved by either adding cooling or design changes.

I'd like to see this tried again, but drill holes through the dowel. The Molten candy will hold on WAY better, and might even be sturdier. OR Make and sharpen a Jolly Rancher knife with a wooden handle and a small wooden dowel running up through it, with the small holes drilled into it.

It's the frame rate of the camera it happens on a lot of cameras

LEDs and some florescent lights aren't constantly on, they are actually flashing faster than the eye can see, but a video camera can pick it up because of the shutter speed. It's even more prevalent when shooting slow motion (because higher frame rates.) You can do the same thing with your cell phone and random LEDs.

That is how dimming light work. It tricks your eyes to see dimmer light by blinking at some frequency instead of actual dimming light

It's the frame rate of the slow mo. Most lights flicker but at a very fast pace.
