In this video, I explore the intriguing world of Mame-Con toy robots. Despite popular belief, these robots aren't worth much, but that doesn't stop people from thinking they are. I managed to find one for cheap, although it was broken. Instead of giving up on it, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Using my other Mame-Con as a model, I made a detailed mold and cast a new body for the broken robot with resin. This process of mold-making and resin casting was both challenging and fascinating. The result? A forged Mame-Con robot that looks just like the original!
Join me as I walk you through the entire process-from creating the mold to the final casting and assembly. It's a fun and educational journey into the art of toy restoration and the surprising world of toy robot collecting. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more unique toy adventures!

Excellent molding work! I don't think I'm familiar with these robots but I've seen some that operate the same way. Interesting about the pricing on ebay. Thank you for the great video! 😁

The pricing is either because someone just spitballed a price based on the age of the toy and other sellers copycatted that, or its because the majority were cast in Gold Plastic or Popy Blue so it's really rare to have one thats fully intact.

Just need to make some 'Made in Randi's Garage' stickers to stick on the under side and flood the market with. They'll probably be worth more being handmade by a true craftsman.

Don't believe the "made in " declarations. Before going back to school I worked in a metals warehouse in the early 90s. I used to open a container ship, cut off all the "made in Sierra Leone" tags (steel comes with paperwork and tags. It's not stamped anywhere) and put on "Made in the USA" tags. I think it had to do with the boycott and not a legal thing.

There is always a distinction between what people are asking and what people are actually paying. Are there actual "finished auctions" with those prices? I can stick a turd on ebay for 500 $, but if nobody pays that money it is still worthless. But probably there ist that one idiot collector with too much money that actually falls for something like this.

No, they aren't getting it. One of them I know for a fact has been on there for years.

Amazing molding skills on display here Ms. Randi. You are amazing (I'm definitely sounding like a broken record now, aren't I, you genius Randi? I'm sorry...) My reality these days is that most of the sellers on eBay nowadays think their item or as Randi so wisely termed it, "Bunk" (for whatever odd reason) is worth a lot more money than it is really worth. It seems, at least to me (IMHO), that it has gotten worse / more prolific on eBay as of late. I almost never end up buying anything on eBay anymore because of this issue (the ridiculous pricing), plus there always seems to be something wrong with the purchase; such as the item is really broken in some unadvertised way, or some part is missing, and of course, can't forget that: "we didn't have the correct / proper batteries to test it, so it is "untested and NO returns". Scam-Bay is what I call it today. Thank you for this really educational plastic part casting video Randi. I hope that you are having a Great Memorial Day weekend Ms. Rain! Fred

Yeah, that's why I don't pay over $20, including shipping, for most of everything. If you wait, they come around with a reasonable price.

Ive seen these in discount stores for $1-2. I guess they're copies or remakes of the original Japanese toy collectables? I wonder how many of those eBay listings are knock offs?

Probably most of them. These sellers have no idea what they are selling.

All of the oils and greases have different purposes. Thinner oils such as 3-in-1 are good for lubrication of small mechanisms where you're not too likely to wear out the oil. White lithium is an amazing lubricant if you need something that's high load/water resistent/high temperature/long lasting, but it's much thicker so it will introduce friction.
