I'm holding this blade in my hand right now. The video doesn't show just how awesome it really is. It looks amazing in the video, but IRL, it is easily 5 to 10 times more beautiful. I got this for my wife for our 17th anniversary. If you are married and didn't know that the 17th anniversary is the Damascus Steel anniversary then you are a bad husband. 1st is paper, 17th is Damascus Steel, 60th is Diamond, and the rest don't matter. Or, maybe I just made that up whole 17th thing up so I could give my wife a cool dagger. ;) If your personal finances ever work out such that you have extra money lying around and Mr. Tyrell has something for sale, BUY IT. You won't regret it. I have 0% buyer's remorse. I'd buy another one of these in a heartbeat. Also, blood wipes right off this thing. Don't play with sharp things when you aren't paying 100% attention to the sharp thing. You'll cut yourself, and it's embarrassing. This thing is STUPID sharp!

I am curious to know what you think your skills in the IT world has helped you with your blacksmithing skills. I am a retired (forced sadly in my early 60's as the company was on a hire offshore cycle) business analyst who worked in the IT world with some very very skilled people but none of them had the artistry skills you display other than writing what they would consider some beautiful lines of code. Boy, that sure did turn out impeccably! I've got a suggestion that came into my head when you were explaining the flat part of the spiral flirting and attempting to figure out what to do. Next time you come across that, what if you took a checkering file across the flat area in a biased angle to add lines crossing the spiral in the opposite direction of the twist? Not only would it add grip, but I imagine it could compliment the spiral and accentuate the curvature of the handle if done right. But I'm good at biting off more than I can chew, so that might be a horrendous suggestion for all I know. 😂

If you don't mind answering this question. What is your spacing on your fluting jig

WTAF??!!? I think someone may have said this already, but how are you still a journeyman? That is easily as skillfully done as anything I've seen Kyle Royer do. Ok, now that I've finished the video; that is THE CRAZIEST forge welding i have seen up to this point in the time I've spent watching forge videos. Seriously, hands down the best work I've seen.

Did I miss how the wire was stuck into those grooves? This is a beautiful piece of work, and I'm just curious about how you secured the wires.

The wire is secured with CA glue. Thanks for watching
@cmshap
@cmshap Жыл бұрын
@@TyrellKnifeworks Thanks, I rewatched that part and saw you using the glue on camera. I guess I wasn't paying attention. I also noticed you bent the ends of the wires over into grooves on the ends of the handle, which makes sense to secure it even further. I never thought I'd be interested in knife making, or blacksmithing content in general, until I started watching your videos. Now I am watching other channels, too.

The black in the knife is more carbon correct? If so shouldn't that be on the edge?
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks Жыл бұрын
No, the black is just high carbon steel that’s been etched with ferric chloride acid and then coffee to turn it black. It’s not “carbon”. The silver portions of the blade are similar high carbon steel but with 2% nickel which resists the acid. Thanks for watching.

Encore une dague magnifique. La lame, ce serait pas celle que vous avez fabriquée il y a quelque temps, en nous demandant à quelle type d'arme elle pourrait servir?
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks Жыл бұрын

Glad you made a dagger out of that billet, the sun got a bit wobbly on the way out but still looks alright. The pattern you got with the sawteeth all the way down the centre though I think is something you might want to look into making another style similar to it as its really quite distinctive. I think that part in particular is probably my favourite part of it.
