Made my first vargan. Took 2 days. I now have a greater appreciation of the common jaw harp. It is now a favorite instrument. I have a total of 9. They each have their own unique sound. Yes, i will make more vargans.

The truth is babayev is in fact one of the best harp makers alive. His harps are truly something else. His munnharpe are better than some of the munnharpe iv played that were norwegian made. I hope this man is able to make harps long into his golden age .

Beautiful Film about your work! It was very fun for me to hear how & why you create as you do. As an artist myself that currently forged chef knives...I see that there is a world if application with metal that I never really knew much about. I have always loved the Jaw Harp and recently bought a few and am now excited not so much to start making them, but for the dreamy idea that if I chose to try....that might be an interesting twist on what's possible. Thanks so much> I particularly liked that you leave the raw forging in your work. I hope to find one of your harps out there for sale someday! Wishing you Goodness, Health, Peace and Blessings in your life and work.

Very cool. Quite the artist! Also, I very much love seeing tool marks, evidence of forging on the jews harp. I turn it over in my hands, contemplate it's nature. Just very cool. Too, I love picking up a new harp, I love to get to know it, figure out how best to play this specific harp.

I don't know whether we can ever call Dmitry "the best". Comparing him to other makers is like comparing Rembrandt with Rubens, Hokusai with Utamaro, Dostoevskii with Turgenev. I have a couple of his harps, which are now practically unobtainable in Europe, and marvellous harps they are, too. I gave one away to a friend because he's a much better player than me, and I thought he deserved it.

Hi. If I remember correctly it's from this album. www.discogs.com/ru/Svein-Westad-Durga-Khatiwada-Jiwan-Rai-Shyam-Nepali-Meeting-In-The-Mountain/release/8321526 And maybe from some other Svein Westad records.

I would like a copy of the sound track. Letting people hear the music in the background of this video has allowed me to show an American audience the sweet sweet melodies. This type of music in the background, when heard by those i introduce to harps, it changes their perspective of jaw harps. It changes their perspective of just some novelty instrument to an actual full fledge musical instrument and people are drawn to this music. It just speaks to me.

MountainMe I need to save up and make these my harp purchase. I've been looking for handforrged harps and i really love the sound of these. Ive always had an interest in the art of blacksmithing. I've only recently attempted to make harps, i Don't know why. Out of stuff I've on the road while bycicling many miles. I've picked up a lot of metal and steel and all kinds of stuff useful for making them. I have all the material. Even steel to heat and forge into harps. I've accumulated it over the last year. Picking almost every peice of metal I've seen. Which is a nice little neast egg. So, I've only manage to complete very very very mediocre harps. However, maybe gaining a bit more insight to make them other ways then when what I've been doing. Which is basically cold hammer into shape with little heat on junky metal I guess. Haha
