Very impressive! And so thoroughly documenting the process, the difficulties and how you overcame them. I also loved the making use of seemingly mundane materials for the handle, turning them into something special. Beautiful work bringing this to life! :D

How would you put the "I AM THAT IS" on the blade, if you even decided to?
@caveofskarzs15447 жыл бұрын
I considered doing that. The way I figured I would is to outline the words on the blade with an acid resist, like fingernail polish, and etch it into the metal using an acid like hydrochloric or just vinegar.

You can save allot of time by cutting out your spring as close to your blank as you can. By doing that you could skip to the bevelling and drawing out the tang. tho maybe a distal taper would have made it more like a historical sword. A bench grinder that takes belts could save you time to. You did very good. I am guessing you have either done this before or you did very good research.
@caveofskarzs15447 жыл бұрын
True, that, but hindsight is always 20-20. :P I actually did have a distal taper; I just didn't show it in the video. No, I haven't done it before. Just watche enough videos of it being done to be comfortable enough to attempt it.

"Forging a sword" *Actually forges metal* OMFG, do you know how many videos I come across that say they're "forging" and the video starts and they cut the sword out with a band saw, and grind it to shape? I wouldn't have used a leaf spring, but still better technique than some of these "blacksmiths"

Perhaps! But then in that case, we might also criticize many other popular fantasy stories for ripping off legends, like Lord of the Rings for ripping off Beowulf, which is where Tolkien got much of his inspiration. ;)
