I was expecting the daughter to be like 16-17 years old. It's wild someone paid for a sword of that quality for a 8-10 year old! Well, it is an heirloom item and something she'll have for the rest of her life I bet. Can't say I'm not jealous, lol. Beautiful work as always. The silver one looks much better with pink samegawa rather than pink ito. I think that pink ito would have definitely cheapened the look of the item.

Beautiful blades, shame you had to remake one but I believe there is a saying, "You're not a real blade smith if you don't have any failures..." Or something like that. That ending was nice but there is one part that was done wrong unless done during a time of war. When you give a Katana to someone, there is a traditional etiquette to follow. At the very least, apart from obvious things like not pointing the blade at others, the person handing over the Katana should. 1- Hold the sword with both hands. 2- Have the Tsuka (handle) towards their left during times of peace. 3- The blade's edge is towards themselves. 4- When handing over the sword, bend forward slightly as a gesture of respect. The problem is how they did part 2, as you are viewing a time of peace, you would hold the Katana with the Tsuka towards your left as a symbol of peace signifying that you have no hostile intentions. Historically, it is not unusual to have the Tsuka towards your right when doing this but that was during the war eras.
@TyrellKnifeworks13 сағат бұрын
They did that part, I had no idea which was correct. Thanks for watching.

@TyrellKnifeworks11 сағат бұрын
The tang is per spec for a katana of this length. The blade tapers from .24” to around .19” at the kiseki. This isn’t my first rodeo. 😉
@Ironheadforge10 сағат бұрын
@@TyrellKnifeworks Hey there, that is a good measurement for the taper, couldn't see it and you didn't speak of it. Still don't like the Tang shape and size. I know it is not your first rodeo, I have enjoyed your content. Love all your knife work, just not crazy about your some of your katana builds, such as having a flat top habaki. But hey everyone builds the way they want and that is what is nice about the craft. Beautiful steel though.
