I told my pastor that my dad had sexually abused me. The pastor said to me, you haven't forgiven your dad, have you? I said, yes. I have forgiven him. Why do you think I haven't forgiven him? He said, because you haven't forgotten it. I said, do you know how many times I have prayed and asked God to give me amnesia so I could forget it? I not only forgave my dad but I took care of my dad at the end of his life. I never even talked to him about what he had done to me. My dad has been gone since 1978 and I did forgive him but I have never forgotten what he did to me but it no longer consumes my life and it no longer affects my life.

@juliewalker8153 ай бұрын
That was the dumbest thing a pastor could have said to you. Forgiveness does not bring forgetfulness. I know a family where there was abuse, but there was also forgiveness. However, a standard and a line had to be drawn that could not be passed for the safety of others. That's not holding it against somebody... That's making that somebody realize that they grossly injured someone and there is a consequence. Remembering doesn't mean being bitter.... Sometimes it means being responsible

I thougt if I try to talk to him to ask if he meant it and he says omething smart or worse he says yes I would be crushed. I felt humiliated, I felt bent but not broken. This was Yah's answer to my prayer. Sharing really is caring. I can't believe I posted this, but I feel so much better. Halleluyah

I definitely needed this. I went through a divorce 15 years ago to my high school sweetheart of 16 years marriage & 18 years together. He cheated our entire marriage. I believe I knew in my heart. Yet never investigated it. We didn't have Jesus in our life. He became an alcoholic. I lost my marriage & my Dad within 10 days. I was at my lowest point in my life. We divorced. Jesus came to me & became my Saviour. Fast forward like 7 years. My ex husband was imprisoned for 5 years. I tried to be a good Christian & have been trying to share Jesus with him since. He doesn't want anything to do with God. He has been out of prison for 2 years. We tried to be friends but the head games started again. Plus inviting me to his bed. 🙄 The flood of emotions from 15 years ago come back. I have shed so many tears. I have told God I can't help him. That I have to love from afar by praying for him. God has to be the one to intervene.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean reconciliation. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you suppress anger or never feel angry about it. Forgiveness doesn’t mean allowing your abusers back in your life and forgiveness doesn’t mean you have to have relationships with toxic abusive family members or friends or to stay in an abusive relationship. Forgiveness doesnt mean overlooking repeated offenses that that person is not repenting of and therefore continually hurting you. Forgiveness does not mean making excuses and allowing that person to continue to hurt you harm you disrespect you or destroy your life. Forgiveness does not mean gaslighting yourself or having fluffy feelings for that person again no matter who it is. Forgiveness does not mean forget.

“A trigger hits and the pain feels fresh…” I’ve been experiencing this with my now husband. His past addiction almost led him into cheating. And although he didn’t, the “almost” taunts me from time to time. He confessed with such remorse and the Lord spoke to my heart “don’t dig up the grave…” but the enemy every few weeks literally taunts my mind and plagues it with that woman’s name and the text messages I found between them when he was using and it resurfaces that pain. Then I build a wall and guard myself for hours, back turned at night, I won’t speak all day… the pain literally muzzles & paralyzes me… and makes me feel so inadequate, rejected, and unwanted… I just want the Lord to heal me and show me how to continue to love him and stay with a heart or forgiveness towards him 💕🕊️

Forgiveness isn't the denial of wrong doing. It's the gift of knowing Christ blood paid for it. My pastor explained this to me march 18, 2009 one day after I tried to commit suicide. I'd hurt so many people and was experiencing hurt from things that'd been done to me. I didn't think God could forgive me and I couldn't forgive even though I'd tried so hard. I'd given up. And he looked at me, and said christ loved you enough to die for you his blood paid the price for your sin, there sinn alike, his blood was enough. I accepted that that day and 9 million ton was taken off my shoulders that day. Thank you JESUS!!!!!!!

Forgiveness is praying for that person. Hate the sin love the sinner. As long as you carry that it eventually weighs you down to the point to where you can’t mover. Jesus gives the greatest example of this in his words on the cross! Forgive them father for they know what not they’ve done!

I just want to say that it is important when we pray as Christians to use the name of Jesus and not say, and the people say Amen. No! The prayer should end by saying, in Jesus name I pray and the people say Amen. This is the reason why we don't see the power of God move in Church anymore. Even Jesus said no one comes to the father except through him. Peter said to the lame man at the beautiful gate, " I have nothing to give you but what I have , I will give, and he commanded the lame man in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to rise up and walk and the man walked. There is something special and powerful about the name of Jesus. The name above every other name"Jesus "

Yes Lysa. The blood of Jesus irons out all the wrinkles created in our hearts by hurts and unforgiveness. What you went through and nullified by forgiveness honored Jesus once and forever. God allowed it for a purpose.

I can tell you there is a huge difference in pain and the need to forgive someone. I am 64 and I was married for 27years. After my divorce, I had a lot of bitterness and unforgiveness. I prayed God would take the bitterness from my heart. I placed my husband's picture on my counter. Every time I noticed the picture, I prayed for him. Every time I felt bitterness, I would pray it out of my life and tell God... I don't want this bitterness in my heart. I have no more bitterness, but the pain is still there. When memories come, I cry. I have no more bitterness, but I still experience pain. It's been 18 years since my divorce, but tears still fall.

Wow. There is no doubt that i needed this like a right now moment. I've been through so much hurt and abuse all of my life and wonder many times if i will ever fit in some good plans. I've been crushed, but i have never given up on God. i realize that all my hope is in Jesus alone. I've been unwanted on this earth, but i know there is a place in the Kingdom for me. man! i needed this! thank you. sometimes you dont know how to heal the hurt.
@KiwiKirsty19834 ай бұрын
Forgiveness doesn't mean ever speaking to the people again. We aren't Jesus. 5:10, we don't have to stay around people who continually hurt us, that's just stupidity. It's absolutely 100% accurate what you say about "we've either been hurt, are going through some hurt or going to be hurt". Welcome to existence. People never apologise, forgiveness is mandatory. I love this because it will never come if someone sits around waiting for an apology.
