In 1964 my dad paid $ 100.00 for a 1954 customline as a second car from a dealership who took it in on a trade in… it ran fabulous !!! had the Ford six cylinder… automatic transmission … great little car !!

The tube you call a drain is called a road draft tube. It is for crankcase ventilation. When the car is moving a low pressure is created across the tube to pull out crankcase gasses. The fresh air comes in through the oil filler cap. This system was used before The PCV system was invented.

True it was, the pcv valve came along for environment reason.

Great job! The reason your grand dad told you to use Rotella oil is because it contains additives that most modern automotive oils no longer have. The old engines with flat tappet cams and looser tolerances need this type of oil to survive. I own 7 antique cars and use Rotella in all of them.

Those engines need zinc additives both fuel & oil.

We used to buy old cars like this in good driveable shape for $50 to a $100 back in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Nobody wanted them. I used to see cars like this stacked up in junkyards waiting to be crushed. There’s an old saying everything old is new again. Now old cars are all the rage I think because youngsters today are drawn to them by their simplicity and styling.

Talk about memories I'm 64 when I was a small child the lady that lived next to my Grandparents had a 2 Door Sedan I think it was a Mainline but I remember it was a 3 on the tree. We usually walked from our house to Grandma's and Mrs Hamzy would take us home she always went from 1st to 3rd when she shifted I don't remember her ever using 2nd.

The grinding when you down shift from second to first is caused by the transmission not having syncros in it. Try learning how to double clutch it. It will go in as smooth as butter. Otherwise you have to nearly be at a dead stop to go into first gear, thats just the way they built them in the day...

My first car was a 1954 Mainline with the inline six. Great automotive for a sixteen year old. It was 13 years old and in rough shape made a mechanic out of me.

I remember when I was a kid my dad had a car just like this. It was a powder Blue good car. You can't shift from 2nd gear down to first there is no sinkro.😅

I suggest taking the oil pan off, clean it out, and reseal it with a new filter and oil. I’m sure you already know that.

Dennis Carpenter reproductions will have a lot of the things you need and for the engine for a good dual exhaust find Cruise junk yards find a set of 56 or 57 312 exhaust manifolds the rear exits on both sides

You can probably rebuild that fuel pump. It's not that difficult, and not too expensive. Try Joblot auto parts, QUEENS, New York, all antique Ford parts.
@jeromebreeding33026 ай бұрын
The easy way for dual exhaust, is the remove cross-over pipe, cap it on passenger side, then make a tight bend from driver's side, then down. Not the ideal solution, but it was commonly done.
