The GameCube was the last time you got both "power" and unique with games from Nintendo. It's amazing how it's seconds life has been becoming one of the most popular retro consoles ever and one where the prices for the fairly hard to find games are ridiculous. It's funny when people decry that Nintendo doesn't try to keep up in terms of specs with PS or Xbox. This was the only time they did. It was a "flop". 21 million unit sales worldwide. In comparison, Wii unit sales 101.63 million. It's a no brainer why they don't try to match specs.

They had a huge sell-off of PS2, Gamecube and OG Xbox games. I loaded up on literal hundreds of games. Got Jet Set Radio future, Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, F-Zero GX, Wario World, Fatal Frame 2, MGS: The Twin Snakes, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Custom Robo and a bunch more. I'd check their site every once in a while. They'll get stupid rare stuff and sell it for cheap. Though, of the two copies of Afrika (PS3) I got, one was a perfect complete NA copy of the game, and one was a disc-only Japanese version. (They don't sell imports and that version is way less rare and expensive.) They gave me hell when I tried to return it. So, you're rolling the dice. Oh, and they have been randomly getting Vita games in every few weeks.

OMG you talked about two of my favourite more obscure games….I LOVE BAITON KAITOS😊 it’s story had great twists, and the game had a high difficulty if you weren’t prepared for your most OP character to suddenly become the BADDY that your after lol definitely had to go back a few save files to make that work out lol

Battallion Wars is great and really gets better the more it goes on; playing just the first couple levels doesn't show the full craziness of Pikmin as a war combat game.

That Gotcha Force games almost felt like a sort of precursor to Danball Senki or LBX over here in the states as the premise/gameplay off both seem very similar. We managed to get one of the games on the 3DS and I consider it a hidden gem. I'm still sad Level 5 dissapeared as we never got the later games that I heard were even better.

Geist really does sound like a cool idea that might’ve been pretty good in better hands. Nintendo is likely more willing to outsource Metroid because apparently it’s not really big Japan and much more popular in the west.

I absolutely love Gotcha Force, still hoping for a sequel someday. The collecting of borgs, the gameplay allowing for simple or advanced ways to fight and the feeling of scale while fighting felt great. Assembling your own small army of fighters that play similar but each offering small gimmicks and variations was great. There's even more awesome stuff like 2 players being able to fuse borgs together if you have the correct ones making for a new more powerful one to control during the match. The OST is also really good, gets you hyped up and nowadays quite nostalgic in my case haha.

@TwilightOroChi

@@Warrenmitchum Yeah you had certain archetypes that borgs belonged to, but the differences in their special moves still made how you approach playing them somewhat different which I appreciated. For example: Garuda and the Blue Garuda might seem to play similiarly but the blue one is more rushdown/close combat oriented because he doesn't have the strong fireball Garuda has. At least that's my experience with the game haha

I feel like Cel Damage is also an underappreciated Gem that is totally forgotten. You should really try talking about it sometime if you do a followup video. Killer7 too, although that one got a pc remaster in 2018. So it's not entirely forgotten.

I always thought it was RE4 that set the trend for people wanting really long games (outside of JRPGS) in the early to mid 2000s, but I guess it was apparently ingrained even before. I know when I was younger I was legitimately upset at how """short""" stuff like COD, Resistance, and Gears of War were with their MeAgEr 8 hour campaigns. lol

Baten Kaitos took de most "cliched" ideas if the genre (amnesiac protagonist, a quest to save the world, evil kingdom) and turn them in a way that no game can reach anymore... Just for THAT twist at the middle you justify having a Game Cube.

Lost Kingdom was actually the first Gamecube game I ever owned, because it was the best looking Gamecube game in the bargain bin when I bought my Gamecube and didn't have very much money left over to buy games. Also, if you ever revisit this idea, I recommend Darkened Skye, a Zelda clone officially sponsored by Skittles here you use Skittles to cast magic and also for some reason you can buy a version of it that comes bundled with Outlaw Golf. I feel like that alone is worth talking about.

Ah, a Grandia II fan! A fellow man of culture! A felt like the only person in the world who knew about Baten Kaitos back in the mid-aughts. It would be a perfect candidate for an HD update. And it has one of the best twists I’ve seen in any medium. The voice sounds nearly kills it, though. It sounds like the actors recorded through the opposite end of a cardboard tube and it really gets to you after a while.
