Another old ground I never went to, unfortunately, but I helped a friend move out of a flat over the road when I lived in Yorkshire 40 years ago. The John Smiths' Stadium is my favourite of all the new grounds and I've seen Rovers away there a few times. It looks like a spaceship and I love the fact it's within about 10 minutes' walk from the town centre.

Why James Smith?
@peterdemeteor83992 жыл бұрын
@@jorgeeusebio8738 It's John Smith's, which is the name of a Yorkshire brewery, and the stadium's sponsor.

A little bit more info for you. At the start of the 71/72 Football League season, Leeds United played Wolves and Crystal Palace there owing to being banned from playing at Elland Road for the first four games of that season due to crowd trouble following the West Brom home game late on in the previous season. Leeds drew with Wolves and beat Palace. The other two games they had to play outside Leeds were at Hull City and Hillsborough, where they beat Newcastle 5-0. I admit to forgetting who Leeds played at Hull.

I read a long time ago that the owner of Leeds United wanted to buy out Huddersfield Town and amalgamate with them to form one club and play out of Elland Road.

Doh, should have read the earlier comment! How about Mrs McSweeney (I think) used to hand out cushions, for a price, on match days, for the seated area. She got me the autographs of the players, including Frank W. Wish I still had the book.
