Forgotten Media: Episode 46
Welcome to another episode of Forgotten Media. There is alot of stuff from different medias that were forgotten and nobody remembers them anymore, and I'm here to show stuff that time forgot.
When I first heard the name of this game, I thought it was some kind of a spin off to MediEvil, then after researching it I found out that this macabre arcade shooter full of gore and blood has nothing to do with a one eyed skeleton knight.

I know I'm going to sound crazy, but did anyone notice this detail in the game: To spawn Carnevil, Jacob had to feed a coin to the Jester Skull (Umlaut) on the tombstone. To start the game up, you need to feed the machine a coin. The adventure begins a token inserted into a slot just like in order to play the game you insert quaters into the Arcade machine. In esssnce Carnevil itself is the very arcade cabniet you are playing. It's a minor easter egg, yeah, but it's a nifty one none-the-less.

Megachamp Awesomedude I heard that when the game first released these two kids were so desperate to play it, but their parents wouldn't let them because they heard about how gory it was. So the kids snuck into the arcade after hours to play it. They put their tokens in just when the clock struck midnight. When the owner opened up the next day, all he found was a huge scorch mark on the floor in front of the game. And in the coin return was a shiny blood-stained token!😱

This game used to be at my old Pizza Hut back in the 90's-2000's scared the shit out of me lmao. The game probably disappeared because the Columbine shooting a year after it's released and everyone got sensitive -.-

When I first moved to Texas I found this game at the mall. I always thought it had kind of a Rob Zombie feel to it. Great game. Last I saw it was at my local movie theater before finally going the way of all arcade games. I'd like to think it's at some truck stop somewhere out in the sticks.

I saw it a a amf bowling alley a long time ago and played only the haunted mansion level and then after that they took it out and it took me forever to figure out the name i'll I could remember was ulmant the flying jester and the first level being horror themed and having zombies and stuff. Eventually after looking up so much stuff as a kid on google in like 2010 or 09 I finally found it again in and I found out I could play it again on mame and I got it and I remember being so excited then I play the game and for some reason the mouse controls wouldn't work so instead I let time run out and it picked rickety town and since I couldn't do anything I kept continuing over and over and if I remember correctly the game still continued the level when I didn't shoot anything it was really weird of course until the krampus boss I couldn't do anything there so then eventually I just exited the game and then somehow I fixed it and I played it and loved it and I played it over and over. Then I found the machine at a trailer park and I was so happy and managed to get to the freak show stage and then ran out of money they removed it from there as well I found out. Nowsdays the only place I've been to that still has it is funworld which is the first time I beat the game legit on a arcade machine.

I found this game as well in the Classic Arcade in Gobles, Michigan. I'm unsure if they still have it because I haven't been at the Classic Arcade for a very long time. Gobles has 2 Classic Arcades, CarnEvil is located at the first Arcade.

I don't think an HD remake of this game would go too well. Don't get me wrong, I love this game to death, but rail-shooters just don't have a place in today's world. I mean, look at that recent Rambo game that came out. Point is, the gaming industry wouldn't put there time and effort "reviving" a long forgotten rail-shooter unless they were "dead" sure that it would "Kill" in sales. Believe me, I'm just as sad about it as everyone else.

If it's an hd version, enhance the graphics and provide some retuning here and there. If it's a full on remake, fine tuned controls, extra levels, more story elements, and extra modes.

FetusReviews it's taken or took. I remember looking at this arcade game in 2001 still a fantastic game to this day also I saw advertising for carnevil on one of my magazines I was reading at that time. Why did this game not get its own line of sequels like House of the Dead.

Just bought mine today, $200 bucks, was dead. Took me 15 minutes to get it going, had a bad power supply and i threw a spare in. Has a bad hard drive, gonna replace ot with a new one for $20 bucks. $220 for a carnevil? I got a good deal. Not a big fan of the shooting games, my arcade is full of 80s classics and fighters, but this game is too cool.

I actually have a theory about why there wasn’t a console port, The game came out in 97, if a console port happened it would likely have been 98 or 99, but what happened on April 20th 1998? The Columbine Shooting. Remember, the shooters were both avid doom fans, one of them straight up said that a gun they had was “straight out of Doom” It was a dark time for violent games, Capcom ended up removing light gun support from the US version of RE Survivor, an official version of Sega’s light gun for the Dreamcast also never released stateside, So it’s very likely a console port was canned in light of the tragedy

I think what helped making this game scary was the fact that all the characters looked like deranged mannequins coming to kill you. And for anyone that knows about Child's play that should give you an idea of what kind of horror to expect from this game.

There was one of these at a barbershop I went to once when I was little. I had no money, so I just watched the intro cinematics on repeat. Minutes later, I was traumatized, and the memory of it was kept in the back of my mind ever since. I thought it was called "crane evil" but after a few more attempts, here it is. I can see why I was scared.

Carnevil was a hidden gem that deserved way more attention. The most criminal thing is that it never got a console port so its only playable through an emulator or if your lucky to find the actual arcade machine itself. I know it's probably very unlikely but I hope someday that a developer will decide to pick this up and remake it or at least give us a console port. Its such a shame to see a great game go largely unnoticed.

I, FUCKIN, LOVE THIS GAME. There was a movie theater in old hometown that had this game. At first, I was too scared to play it but when I finally got the guts to put in those two quarters, I couldn't STOP playing it. After about $10 worth of quarters, I finally beat it.

There's actually a CarnEvil machine in a theatre in The River Cinema 15 in East Grand Forks, so if you for some odd reason go to Minnesota (other than the Mall of America which is pretty far away), then you can play the game.

How powerful should your laptop or PC be to run carnevil? I tried to download Carnival from the emulation site but for some reason the game won't load I don't know what's going on I click it nothing happens it just takes me to this thing with a lot of code on it I have no idea what to do.

Once at a Scandia is California, I stumbled onto this game thinking it was haunted (keep in mind I was 7). I couldn't stop talking about that day. Next trip. GONE. It sucks that I wasn't able to experience this fun game.

I first discovered this game in the mid 2000's. it was the arcade of the bowling alley near my house. I tried to beat the freak show, and after failing, I tried the haunted house. I failed that as well, even though I put up a good fight when I played this game. Next time I went bowling, I never saw the CarnEvil arcade machine. (I rediscovered the game on the Internet a few years later.)
