Forgotten oil wells leak, spew, pollute

A Texas rancher fears that two abandoned oil wells leaking on her property are a sign of much bigger problems lurking below the surface. Experts say millions of decaying wells will pose even greater threats to our air and water. (July 29)

Have an old well on our property in Tionesta Pa we are about 2 miles from Pithole and the famous Frasier Well area. We filled it with concrete just as a preventative plug. There are remnants of the original Standard Oil Pipeline right off of our property.

Notice how the Chevron spokesperson said "if we are FORCED to take responsibility". That is what I find disgusting, that even if they were to know on a moral or ethical plane that they are culpable, responsible or liable to take action, they likely won't do so until they are forced to do so by the state or federal government. And with the way the TX RailRoad Commission has been in the pockets of the oil companies for decades, it would likely require massive force to make them deal with this problem. If you ever want to know why the cost of living is so low in Texas, all you have to do is study some Trxas history. If it doesn't have to be regulated, Texas does not regulate it, until some big incident or catastrophe forced Texas to start regulating it, and even then it's usually a loose form of regulation at best.

The point is the people who own the well weren't taking care of it well and it would've been fine if they had just taken care of it or not of open up the reserve companies need to be for the aftermath of such incidents

Oil and gas wells never run empty. They continue to replenish. Insay tap into them

They didn’t spend much time at the end….showing off the million plus home …. If they want local problems fixed … fix them…. your trucks and equipment use oil….

so maybe like the plastic pipe lawsuit where they forced all plastic pipe makers to pay the govt forces every existing oil company to pay into a fund to plug abandoned oil wells.add a tax at the pump for it is another option. so everyone who uses gasoline has to pay. why not ? that seems fair to me. and make sure the money goes to plugging wells bot some other govt program.
