Very good information! I watched my mechanic do this job on my w124 without the special tool and that was an hour of swearing!

Excellent video: comprehensive and easy to follow. I'm replacing the parking brake shoes on my 2004 W209 and it's the exact same as the one in the video.

Kent, my recently acquired W204 has the same parking brake system. I had to adjust the shoes as it wasn't holding. The car had passed the MoT test (annual UK roadworthiness test) 2 months previously. My 2003 Volvo XC90 also has the same type of parking brake.

I never have seen somebody wash the area where the brakes life. But the quality of this is amazing! Considering it is done on such a quality car. I really like the quality! I built a similar drum brake tool 20 years ago from a worn screw driver with an angle grinder.

My 1998 Saab 9-3 had the same set up I guess you can get a nice soft shoe for a good handbrake,yet keep the pads hard for the rear brakes.

Fantastic instructional video as always Kent. Love watching your instructions even though i have a modern (2011) SL500 which my service engineer looks after. I do tinker with old stuff and try to do it properly as you do.

HI there Kent, I am the least mechanically minded person under the sun. The way you explain so well and show just simply how to go about a job makes me just want to climb in with some spanners. Thank you for your time and dedication to your channel. Fuel is expensive in South Africa this is why I love the W123 300D and 240D's so much. Also, they give really nice driving experience. I decided to replace the parking brake shoes on my 2000 Prado while I was replacing the rotor and pads. I didn't have any special tool and ended up defeated. Your tool might not work for me as the retaining springs are slightly different but you have given me some hope.

My wagon has a driver side parking brake that keeps opening and rubs against the brake hub and makes a grinding noise and makes the wheel hot
@Mercedessource3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you might have a rusty cable (internal) that is not releasing and causing the brake shoe to rub on the inside of the rotor

I just did this job a few months ago, and holy crap that tool would have been a godsend! One thing I still can’t get right is the tightness of the caliper. How easy should it be to rotate the wheel with the handbrake off? Because if I set it so it only just freewheels then the park brake doesn’t work well when turned pressed on.

Watch the next video I am going to put up on the causes of parking brake failure in the next few days. That may give you a clue as it what to look for.
